At the Computex trade show in Taiwan, Intel announced partnerships that will bring out 50 new Ultrabooks. And some PC makers have begun dropping netbooks from their lineups in favor of more powerful, and more expensive, ultras. But with manufacturers showing off tablets, hybrids, and other more unusual products, are Ultrabooks already yesterday's news -- or are these companies just looking to break out of the pack with gimmicky products that may never make it past the prototype stage?
We knew Computex 2012 was going to bring a wave of new tablets, including some based on Windows 8. What we didn't know was how creative some manufacturers would get with their new offerings. Asus, for one, is showing off a range of new devices, including some category-defying prototypes, and Viewsonic has presented what is either the world's largest Android tablet, or the most conflicted desktop display (or is it an all-in-one PC?). Some of the highlights: Asus Transformer Book -...

I speak the truth! I predicted this only a few months ago! http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13970_7-57385002-78/get-more-from-your-mobile-with-the-asus-padfone/ A phone that can be used in a tablet shell and further in a laptop shell! Asus is first to market with this, arguably not going to make any real money off of it, but this proof of concept like device is the future in the grow smartphone, tablet hungry market. Another company like Sony, HTC, Apple, Motorola needs to make a copycat to popularize...

I reckon gdgt should extend the categories list to include computer components here is why.
computer hardware forums are full of passionate users who all list what they have, wouldn't it be good for gdgt to have there embedded widget on there.
A later step could be a system builder, build your dream system, this is my system etc.
could branch out and connect with other sites like tom's hardware just like they do with engadget.
components and mods have a huge community, bringing some of that over...
The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.
I'm looking for such a tablet, but none of the manufacturer's seem to specify the brightness nits in their specs and none of the reviews address this aspect.
After examining an actual unit, I went for a Mac Mini 2010 instead and am very pleased. Sure it cost more and it's worth more. If you're on a budget, however, the Asus may be for you, and I prefer its build quality to the Acer near-twin.
My only complaint about this monster of a laptop is the screen is not very good. Refresh rate is great but its a little bit washed out, blacks are more grey and off axis viewing is terrible. But otherwise it is a super fast, well built and well prices laptop!
*** This post originally appeared in the gdgt weekly newsletter. Sign up here: http://gdgt.com/newsletter/ *** Yes, a ridiculous number of tablets were announced at CES last week. We highlighted a bunch of them in last week's email, and even those were just scratching the surface. It can be a bit overwhelming, but I actually think this flood of tablets -- even if many of them are undifferentiated offerings that look like they were rushed out the door for a trade show -- is a good thing....

76 Link at: http://www.jessebandersen.com/2011/01/where-to-fin... I couldn't read the page... but managed to go through the checkout process. Paypal made it a lot easier. :-) I hope to get it in about a week or two. Since it has a browser I bet it could work with Google Books.
I am looking to upgrade the video card with a GeForce 9800 card but it requires a PSU of at least 550 watts. If I purchase a new PSU that holds 550 watts, will I be able to install it on this desktop? Will I have to remove the old one and install the new one? How does it work? Also, will I have to remove the old video card to replace it with a new one? Not sure with this specific desktop. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The original ICS update for the Asus Transformer started rolling out almost 2 months ago. It was met with users reporting device reboot loops, poor battery performance, and app crashes. Asus has since released a software update (March 13th - version 9.2.1.17) to try and combat these problems. Some users are reporting that the initial problems are still present, some are reporting it has been fixed. Given the last month to consider, how have you found the update to be? Was it a big jump from...
Looking to buy a new monitor (around 24") to use as an external for coding on my MacBook Air but I haven't really paid attention to them in a while. It looks like all the reasonably-priced ones on Newegg are 1920x1080. Is that pretty much the norm these days or should I look for something better? Also, recommendations would be appreciated.
I want to have a new good gaming laptop. So, I make my personal research about the best gaming laptop that I can get with my limited budget. and I just read at http://www.theamazingzones.com/alienware-am14x-6667bk-vs-asus-g53sx-xa1-hardware-comparison-review/ about Alienware Am14x vs Asus G53SX-XA1 hardware comparison, I know both laptop is good, but I want the best that I can get with my money. Are that comparison accurate ?
Hey guys. Need a favor. I'd like to upgrade from my trusty Dell Inspiron 1427 laptop. Let me know any suggestions you have for a Midrange laptop (13-15 inches / 4Gb Memory/ 320 to 500Gb HDD/ midrange graphics card) and if it has an option for a backlit keyboard..
I'm looking for a laptop. But here's what I'm looking for: These are a must: NFC DLNA Bluetooth at least 1 USB 3.0 port but must have at least 2 usb ports An HDMI port (In and out if possible touch screen (possibly a convertible laptop) and a camera (for video chat. i don't plan on sing this for photography. it looks stupid) Can't be over 14 in in width, High-Res Display. [I would prefer an Android-based tablet since I'm already familiar with that platform.]
By "best tablet" I mean, which is the most reliable and intuitive device for running PowerPoint? What about connecting the tablet to a projector? Do they all have mini HDMI? Of course I wouldn't be designing the presentations on the tablet, simply running them.
I'm in the market for a new laptop after three years. Now I'm the kinda guy who doesn't mind spending a couple hundred dollars more right now to get something that seems like overkill at the present, so long as it keeps me chugging along at a decent pace for two or three years. Basically, I don't like to throw down money for a new gadget every year. This brings me to my question: Are there any decent touchscreen laptops available these days? I ask because it's patently obvious that that's the...
