it tries to boot up but it gets stuck on the "archos, entertainment your way screen". had it shipped to a hacker in the US to get it fixed. waiting for feedback. customer service didn't even get back to me.
I am thinking about getting a Archos 5 Android and was wondering what the primary uses of the devise are in the real world. I need a good PMP and i was wondering if that is the primary use of this device considering its size and other features. Anyone who owns/owned one, your opinions would be greatly appreciated
Has anyone done the hack posted on forum.archosfans.com? And also now that it is 'unlocked' what do u think the hackers will do? I was just wondering because all the hack does currently is give you all the plugins for free. For reference this is only for the original Archos 5.
RAmos Digital plans to announce their own Android-based PMP capable of "1080p MKV (H.264/VC-1), AVI (Xvid/DivX) and various other formats, with bitrates ranging from 30 to 40Mbps". If that is true and memory is enough for running some background apps as well, this device would simply DECIMATE Archos offerings as they are.
It's a little unclear (to me at least) whether this device will be able to run standard Android apps from the marketplace, like those that run on the G1 and Hero. It is clear that it is not a Google device, so the standard Google-only stuff will not work, but what about other marketplace apps (like the podcasting app, etc.) Will that stuff run?
When Archos 5 with Android OS was announced I was totally immersed into the grandeur potential of a PMP that beats iPod Touch into the grounds. Typically, I had to be disappointed when the device was actually announced. * It doesn't play DivX/Xvid even if older Archos players did! It seems Archos didn't even try to extend Android codec support beyond WMV. * 4.8" screen is RESISTIVE once again. * Browser does not support full Flash... in fact, no Flash at all. Apparently the new Archos 5 MID was outed by the FCC and it could possibly be the rumored Android device that they have been working on. There conference is supposed to be in two weeks where they will be revealing the Android Device and this does seem to coincide. I am thinking of migrating from iPod classic to this. I am interested in how easy is it to subscribe/listen to audio and video podcasts. I need to sync up 2x a day -- at home and at work. Work has no WiFi. Everything I've read makes me suspect there is no software to support what I want to do easily. if anyone has good experiences doing something similar please speak up
Hey, I was wondering if anyone had done/seen a side-by-side comparison of the Archos 5 to an Ipod touch? Seeing the two devices together would be a great asset to determining the use of an Archos 5. I currently have an Ipod Touch. I would consider switching over if this device had better "plugin" or application capabilities. How bout you?
Hi, I'm not so happy with the built-in PDF reader on the Archos5. Does anybody know if there is an ebook reader for Archos 5? I already checked the opera-based widgets but couldn't find anything.
