Conclusion: Pass on it

Let's start with the positives: The Archos 101 G9 is now available with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), has a good full HD display, and is available with a 250GB hard drive. Unfortunately, the tablet is sluggish, feels somewhat flimsy, has a short battery life, and lacks a rear-facing camera. While some versions are available for under $300 — making it one of the least expensive 10-inch tablets on the market — you get what you pay for. If you want to keep costs down, you're better off opting for a higher-quality 7-inch Android tablet, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Otherwise, be prepared to spend a little more.

The bottom line: The Archos 101 G9 (8GB) delivers a complete Honeycomb experience, but its rough design, low-quality camera, and awkward button placement make it feel rushed to market.

Despite its ICS update and slightly upgraded processor, the Archos 101 G9 Turbo's glacial lag and cumbersome build makes this tablet safe to skip over.

The Archos 101 G9 is a functional, up-to-date Android tablet at a reasonable price, although it doesn't really stand out aside from 1080p file support.

The Archos 101 G9 offers plenty of features for $369, including a big 10.1-inch screen, Android Honeycomb, and even HDMI output. However, its poor build quality, short battery life, and high operating temperature make it a bad deal at any price.

Overall Archos should be commended for trying and succeeding to deliver something a little different, but if wide-ranging video support isn't top of your agenda, you'll find that the G9 lacks the desirability of other devices.

The Archos 101 G9 sets out a specific stall for itself and does incredibly well at delivering on that goal, although only in a functional way. There's no innate joy or passion on show here.

If you want a powerful tablet with the flexibility of Android you may be won over, but with Ice Cream Sandwich arriving on the Tablet S at the end of April, we know where we’d put our money.

Without a doubt, this is the most capable Android Honeycomb video player currently available. ... The power's there too - its dual-core 1GHz processor able to handle high bit-rate 1080p content with ease. What's wrong, then? It's the design.

If you’re in the market for a tablet that is cheap, and incredibly good at playing videos of all kinds (and is at least decent at most other tablet tasks), then look no further – if you’re going to be doing things that eat up RAM though I would look elsewhere (for now).

The screen is excellent, the build quality isn't the most beautiful and it's plastic all around, but the tablet is quite sturdy. The touch screen is quite responsive does work with 1080p movies with 16:9 aspect ratio which is great. I got the 8Gb version, but there is a MicroSD port that goes up...

Pros This is a good overall tablet for someone on a budget. See comments in the ratings. Cons Not very many accessories available for it and I lost the SD card at least once due to it's placement next to the power button.
