Just browsed through the list of the latest gadgets that received a score here, and came upon this - the Archos GamePad, which got the brutally awful score of 45. That immediately made me wonder: has there ever been a worse score than that on gdgt? Sorry, Archos, but you may as well just get out of business on your own. As the famous Hebrew proverb puts it: do not spit into the well you drink from. I guess that for a company like Archos, that used to be quite popular in the tablet industry but...

There are lots of keyboards available for tablets, ranging from Bluetooth keyboard cases for iPads to specialized docks like the ones ASUS offers for its Transformer line. But few tablets actually ship with a keyboard, since most are designed to be used primarily with their touchscreens, and keyboards are generally considered aftermarket products designed for a small subset of the user base. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/08/lead-1345563189.jpg But longtime second-tier...

The Archos can easily connect to my computer via micro usb, to a keyboard & USB drive via USB port, and to Bluetooth devices including my Bluetooth mouse and GPS. No USB on the iPad. The iPad runs well out of the box. The Archos took a lot of upgrading and tweaking to become reliable and stable. Even with access to the entire Android market, the iPad has much better (quality & variety) applications. The Archos is lighter than the iPad, and not quite the same build quality - but I'm...

Because the screen on this thing is the worst I've seen on any consumer electronics device. It was simply unusable. The problem was that if you looked at it straight-on in landscape mode (like the photo in this GDGT entry), the top edge of the screen would have a different contrast/color saturation than the bottom edge. Where this became the biggest problem was when you tried to do anything in portrait mode. Because of this inconsistency across the screen, your eyes effectively see two...

99 for the 8gb and £299 for the 16gb version , alot less than the Ipad, looks alot better, time will tell !!!!! There was a way of putting the android marketplace on the Archos 5 internet tablet , i wonder if you can do the same with this??
720x480), this is a surprisingly capable device, and with add-on codec packs (unfortunately more $), displays almost everything I've ever downloaded or encoded myself. Strong network support including built-in 802.11g wireless as well as Ethernet, and the ability to copy files to/from its hard drive from/to the network, directly from the on-screen interface is a real plus. Also acts as a media extender, able to playback videos and audio files from network shares. Available reconditioned for...

it tries to boot up but it gets stuck on the "archos, entertainment your way screen". had it shipped to a hacker in the US to get it fixed. waiting for feedback. customer service didn't even get back to me.
I just want to make a prediction about the upcoming reviews. I think they will say something like how the device doesn't use a capacitive screen so the device sucks compared to any apple product. I think they will say the device feels sluggish and not as fast as an apple product. Also the app store isn't as big as the apple app store. So with those are the three main reasons they will not recommend the device. Engadget is the one I am thinking of the most. Anyone want to bet?
I realize that the Archos 14 Vision is of this form-factor. But I would very much prefer an Android-based OS. I don't need video. In fact I would prefer it not. Just want a solid, but tiny, Wifi device with a good OS. I might even consider an iPod Nano if it had iOS and wifi access.
Every now and then I will be playing a video and the thing will suddenly pause for anywhere from a half a second to several seconds. Also I'd say maybe 1 in every 50 videos causes the thing to lock up hard (have to forcibly power it down by holding the button down for 10 seconds or whatever). I mostly watch H.264 with MP3 or AAC audio and subtitles (fansubbed anime), usually standard def (640 x something or 720 x something), sometimes 720p. In general this thing feels somewhat less stable...

hi i got this a week ago but did not realize double twist on a mac would not sync only windows i dont care how you do it but does any one know how to sync it
I subscribe to many Revision3 shows in iTunes. I drag the files onto my Archos so I can watch them. When I try to watch them, the audio plays, but the video looks almost like a strobe light of just the first frame of the video. I can skip around to different parts of the video and it will change the position and even the frame, but it will stay stuck on the frame that is at that point. I checked the info of the video in iTunes, and it said it was encoded with a program called mp4creator, so it...
Got this unit a week ago and finally started playing with it over the weekend. Updated the firmware. I loaded about 60 gig of music. First thing is it seems like the battery is draining a lot faster then it should be for just listening to music. Second on every album that I have listened to it will hit a song and stop for a minute then all of all sudden it starts screeching. It won't let me do anything, the only way I can get it to stop is to reset.. After resetting I can go back to the same...

I have one of these for work and was looking at testing Google Gears, however it doesn't seem to have it, nor can you install it - what gives? I thought all Android devices would support Gears.
Just tried to install the new 1.1.01 firmware update, everything was running smoothly until it came time to reboot after installation. It keeps hanging on the "Archos - Entertainment your way" screen, multiple resets have not solved the problem. I suppose I can just send it back early, but I would be pretty pissed off if I had bought one of these and had this happened. Gonna keep trying, anyone else had this happen?
Hey i just recieved this and i can not get the fm transmitter to work has anybody tried the fm transmitter out? also it did not come with the apps lib installed how do i install this on my own?? any help would be much appreciated there tech support people are clueless i have called them 4 times and waited an hour each time just to here them say they dont know
Got one to check out, any questions? Will say right off the bat that there are some things I love: the screen is bright and high-res, and the device is thinner than I thought it would be. Things I don't like: resistive display makes it harder to use than it should be. Found myself wishing that they'd included a stylus. Anyway, ask away!
This device seemed like a great idea at the time in order for me to record surgical video from my operating room microscope. I even bought the docking station to easily come out from an sVHS connection from the operating room camera, into the dock. 5-10 seconds into the beginning of a recording, the device often automatically changes into P (protected) mode, designed to prevent pirating of videos. Once in protected mode, the resulting recording can only be viewed on the Archos player, with...
