Pulled out the Opitcal Drive and popped in a Toshiba 750GB and bought a 96GB FileMate SolidGO Ultra SSD (w/mini USB port) for the ExpressCard 34 slot (which i installed OS X on and use as my boot disk). Now, with the SSD speed boost and insane storage, I do 3D, video editing, design and music production all on the go. This laptop is EXCELLENT!!

What do you do when your machine runs hot?
I used to have a 17" MacBook Pro and most of my friends are also designers and they have fallen into the Apple trap. The number one complaint I hear about MacBook Pros of any size: heat. They always run very hot. So, since Apple refuses to deal with the issue through design, what do you do to keep your computer (and yourself) cool?

With a quad core processor and a solid state hard drive, this would probably make a pretty nice Windows 7 platform that boots up in a reasonable amount of time.

Had it for 24 hours and I hate this computer. The sharp edge is a major pain.
the deck is the size of an aircraft carrier and they stick a small keyboard in it with no numeric keypad, no home, end, page up, page down or delete keys. I had a 15.4" laptop that had all of those. I like a big display but the fact that OSX is not resolution independent means that anything displayed is microscopic. I would attach an external keyboard to it, but that means the display would be further away and impossible to read.
Mid-body sag?
I have three 17-inchers at the moment. Two are older - Early 2009 - and the third is a newer Late 2009 warranty replacement for an all-too-typical-for-Apple lemon also purchased in Early 2009. I have had significantly less problems than previous non-unibody MBP's on the unibodies - probably a big part of it is that since late 2008 I'm not half as mobile with my barrage of laptops as I used to be. However, I've been noticing one thing in particular with the older unibodies. The...

Do you think the next update will have i7 Arrandale or i7 Clarksfield?
I am looking to buying either the 15" or 17" MacBook Pro next August (Tax free weekend!) and I will be using the education discount. I am reading all kinds of articles and forum posts about what processor will be in the next update. i7 are a given, but everywhere I have read that the quad-core Clarksfield is too hot to run in a thin system such as a unibody MacBook Pro, so they were saying that Arrandale will be used across the board, which I do not like because it is only dual core. I...

Trackpad too far forward?
I've been thinking for a while about upgrading from a Late '07 13" MacBook to a new 17" Unibody MacBook Pro. I took a trip to the local Apple store today to try one out, and was surprised to find that the trackpad was much further forward (in the direction of the keyboard) than on my MacBook (and even the 13" Unibody MBPs.) I'm used to about a 1/4" gap between the front edge of the machine and the trackpad button, and the larger models had a much larger one,...

Are 16:9 MacBook Pros in Apple's future?
With the new 16:9 iMacs out, I wonder if Apple will bring that aspect ratio to the MacBook Pro line anytime soon.

Resolution just too high at 1920 x 1200
Just wanted to add my two cents here. I purchased this about a week and a half ago and then returned it after two days. I found that despite having an absolutely beautiful screen, the resolution was just too damned high unless you put your face about a foot away from it. FWIW, my vision is fine and I'm relatively young (29). I used to have the previous 17-inch MBP, which I loved. But note that the resolution on most of these was 1600 x 1050, which seemed much more natural. Ultimately, I...

17 MBP Unibody in a professional environment.
I'm a pro photographer from New Zealand and I'm considering upgrading from my Apple Macbook Black (C2D 2Ghz, 2GB, GMA 950 - I know) to a 17" unibody MBP. I currently spend a lot of time in CS4 working on raw files around 9MB in size, which when opening around 20 files for edits can become quite a slow and tedious task because of my Macbook's hardware limitations (But all things considered, it's still a brilliant machine thats two and a half years old). I'm connected to a...

MacBook Pro: glossy vs. antiglare?
I'm considering buying the Macbook Pro 17 inch unibody. My question is what is better glossy or antiglare? Pro's and cons of each?

Portability?
How portable is the 17"? I really badly want the high res screen, but being in college and lugging a laptop all over campus I don't know if it would be the best option.
