Conclusion: We like it

Apple's late-season update adds a faster processor and better graphics to the company's largest laptop. Otherwise, it's identical to the model introduced earlier in the year, and if you bought one of those, there's little reason to rush out and upgrade. While the 17-inch MacBook Pro remains expensive, it's still a great option if you need a big-screen computer that you can take on the road.

If you have an older laptop, however, these MacBook Pros offer faster processors, larger hard drives...and improved graphics...features that combine to make already attractive systems even greater value.

This is most likely the last MacBook Pro that will look like this. If you can get the anti-gloss display, I would. The screen is uber glossy and dust friendly. Memory can't be expanded to 16GB and battery is not as strong as the earlier models. Really fast though. I could render movies out of...

This is the future Mac Pro!! It's speed like an iMac and I think in 2-3 years will be powerful like an actual Mac Pro. You can do any things with this, and now that there's thunderbolt, you can use external hard disks. In fact the problem is the hard disk, it would be great more space... Anyway...

The 17" MBP was a great desktop replacement/substitute; and, if you can still buy a refurbished model from Apple, I can recommend this notebook. It is a pity that Apple has killed the 17" MBP. For an Apple product, this notebook is surprisingly easy to service and upgrade (battery, hard drive,...
