What's a good KVM switch to use between desktop PC and MacBook Pro
details
Here's my setup basically:
PC:
Tower w/ DVI ports
USB Keyboard
USB Mouse
Apple Cinema Display (hah)
MacBook Pro:
15-inch unibody with mini-DVI
Prior to building my PC, I had the MacBook Pro on a stand and it would use my Cinema Display in a dual-monitor configuration. Now, the PC uses the Cinema display -- it's a pain to constantly unconnect and reconnect everything, so my MacBook Pro no longer uses a dual monitor setup at home.
I figured the easy solution is a KVM switch. Does anyone have some decent... Read more →

My MacBook Pro won't recognize scrolling from any Magic Mouse -- what's going on?
details
A few weeks ago, I was using my Magic Mouse at home and noticed that it could no longer detect scrolling. (See previously: http://gdgt.com/question/help-my-magic-mouse-no-lo... Now, it turns out that my computer doesn't detect scrolling from any Magic Mouse.

I just reconnected my work Magic Mouse to my computer (been using another mouse for awhile now) and am having the same issue. What gives? Why doesn't the Magic Mouse properly work with my computer?

Can you identify the speed bottleneck?
details
Between a desktop connected via wired ethernet to Airport Extreme 5th Gen (Gigabit ethernet) connected via a powered USB 2.0 hub to an external USB hard drive which spins at 5400RPM, what would be speed bottleneck?
USB 2.0
or
HDD RPM
or
Gigabit Ethernet
or
USB Hub
I ask because I have an option of switching to a 7200RPM drive and not sure if its worth it. This setup is ONLY for Time Machine backups. A couple of laptops will be connecting over WiFi N for TM backups but my primary desktop which I'm most... Read more →

Is the SystemUIServer process using causing battery life issues in Lion?
details
Since upgrading to Lion I noticed a severe degradation of my battery life (down to about 1:45) of my unibody MacBook Pro. The fan was running non-stop even with no apps running other than the ones that load on startup. Did a little sleuthing and found that the process SystemUIServer – which handles apps in the menu bar as well as the Dashboard -- was gobbling up 25% of the CPU. Even killing all the running apps didn't change the CPU usage, so finally I killed/restarted the process itself. Now,... Read more →

Best hard drive for 2011 MacBook Pro 15?
details
I am about to place an order for a 15" MacBook Pro, but I need a larger drive than it comes with. I'm looking for a good 1TB drive. I believe the MacBook supports SATA 6gbps, so I'd like the drive to support that as well. Also, I heard some rumblings about issues with the motion sensor, any truth to that?

Is it possible to install 8GB of RAM into a 15" MacBook Pro unibody (Core 2 Duo) from mid-2009?
details
There is a crazy, ridiculous sale on 8GB of RAM this weekend on Amazon, so I thought about picking it up! Unfortunately, my 15" MacBook Pro only officially supports 4GB of RAM. I thought I heard that you can unofficially install 8GB of RAM inside of these models. Is this true? If so, any secrets I should know, or do I just pop the DIMMs inside and boot it up?

Replace my late-2008 MBP with 2011 MBP?
details
So I bought the first-gen Unibody MacBook Pros back in 2008. It's a 15" 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4gbs of Ram. I've been thinking of getting a new MacBook Pro, also 15", with a nice Core i7 CPU. I'm unsure of when Apple will give it a nice update, so I'd like to hear your thoughts on whether I should hold on or just go for it?

OS X Mail: Is it possible to keep the "New Message" box in the same place each time it opens, or place it in the mail frame?
details
So now that i have a lot of spaces and they're so easy to go through vs spaces, i didn't really use, I have Mail in a pane and all mail stuff happens in that pain, but it's incredibly annoying when you open a "New Message" and it appears over what you're trying to comment about, I've framed the Mail perfectly in the window so 3/4's of the screen is Mail Client and 1/4 is for "New Message". I just wish the "new message" window would pop up in the same place or just open in the OS X Mail frame...

My 2010 Macbook Pro overheats and shuts down constantly - does anyone else have this problem?
details
Anyone have an ideas what is going on here? I took it in to the Apple store and they said it "was probably a software problem" and reinstalled the operating system - but that hasn't fixed the problem. What happens is this: my mac starts to become very hot, I can hear the fan whirring at top speed, and then the screen just goes black. I then have to restart the machine and get an error message that the laptop had a "kernel panic". This used to happen about once a day, but now happens so...

Viscocity keeps dropping my VPN connections, anybody know why?
details
It first started a couple weeks ago, I was using a mobile hotspot on a train at the time and attributed the issue to that. Earlier this weekend while using viscosity from my home wireless network the connection dropped and reconnected several times over a short time period, 15 to 30 minutes. I am running the latest version, 1.3.3. My mac programs are up to date. I don't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary, mainly just browsing webpages hosted on the VPN. I am using Comcast, I've had... Read more →
