Is a DAC or AMP warranted with the Macbook Pro?
details
I've read conflicting thoughts on this and was wondering if anyone can comment to the built-in DAC on the Macbook Pro and whether an external one will make that much of a difference. I know a DAC/AMP will help regardless but I'm more interested in identifying if it's a must buy at the same time as upgrading my headphones.

If I'm migrating to a SSD do I need to worry about the recovery partition?
details
I'm considering migrating from a HDD to a SSD for speed reasons and it looks pretty straight forward. I can connect the SSD via USB to do the clone and then swap out the drives. My only concern is that a few guides mentioned that there might be an issue with getting the recovery partition to copy over. If you have just done a clone to new drive did it properly copy over the recovery partition?

Which laptop should I choose for college?
details
I would be joining college soon and I am confused on which laptop to choose. Only apple. I am confused on to buy MacBook air of MacBook Pro. I want something that would not make me regret not being able to college use for a year or two before I upgrade. I already have an iPhone and iPad. I do not play games or much of graphics intensive stuff. So I am confused on Air 13 inches and Pro 15 inches.

Are there any laptops with hardware that compares to the Macbook Pro?
details
I'm about to get a new laptop, and I'm not sure which one to choose. I run Ubuntu Linux as my everyday OS, so the only thing that really matters is the hardware and form factor of the laptop. The Macbook Pro seems to have everything down extremely well, but I never liked that it has no number pad or dedicated Home and End buttons.
The Dell Inpsiron I have now is okay, but the hardware feels a bit cheap and the touchpad is not very good.
I'm looking for a laptop that has a similar form factor to... Read more →

When I start my computer while it is connected to my Acer monitor, it freezes while it is in the middle of refreshing displays.
details
It freezes right in the middle of the blue screen, so I can still see a faded version of the desktop (frozen, of course) behind it. It works if I start the computer with the monitor unplugged and plug it in after the startup process is complete, but I would prefer to solve this problem and save the constant hassle.

What's the best laptop under $1000 for photo/video editing?
details
I'd like to stay PC if possible. I can't really afford the premiums on Mac systems. If it's a huge difference editing on a Mac then I might just pony up the extra benjamins to secure one. I'm quite familiar with both Win and OS X so user experience with one or the other isn't an issue.
