Does Mac OS X require less powerful hardware to run smoothly than Windows 7?
details
When comparing MacBook's and PC laptops of about the same tier, the specs of the Mac seem to always be much lower. (For example - you'd be getting 4 GB of RAM whereas 8 GB is the norm for the tier of computer.) Is Apple just being cheap or does their OS actually require less beef to run properly (not talking about minimum requirements). In an "apples to apples" comparison (in this case Apple to PC), would a Mac run more smoothly than a PC of the same hardware?

I am considering switching my laptop to a MacBook Pro. My dilemma is I do a lot of gaming.
details
Most the stuff I have is not heavy hitting (except for Dawn of War II, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Demigod). I have a desktop for most of my gaming, but want something that can still do some while away on campus. Will it run most Valve games on the medium settings? I currently have an Asus M50Vm-B1 and the battery life is the main reason I want to get rid of it. Is the 13" gonna work for me? I run a lot of programs at once, is the smaller screen gonna hold me back? Would it be better to... Read more →

Cheapest Way to install Windows 7 on MBP
details
I have a very occasional need for a Windows OS: Business eBanking and updating the firmware on my Nokia S60 phone are the two current needs I have. I am not a student and would prefer to have registered software. I have an old Win2000 Toshiba that works great, but already many products do not support that OS (Nokia, Apple, etc). The cost of Win7 looks almost as expensive as an entire netbook. What is the cheaper way to get occasional Windows 7 access on either the MBP or another machine. Matt

Screen brightness concerns
details
Following a recent software update the screen brightness on my MBP seems much less bright. Previously I would use it on it's lowest brightness setting when indoors at night...I know find that setting far to dark and need to have it set to a mid-way setting. Has anyone else noticed anything similar or am I being crazy here? Have tried turning the auto adjustment on/off but makes no difference. Thoughts/suggestions welcome.

Buy Core 2 Duo or wait for Core i3/5/7
details
I've finally made the decision to buy my first Mac Book but I'm stuck. I don't know if i should buy the base model MBP 13.3" now or if I should wait to see if/when Apple will add Intel's Core i chips. I'd really be upset if I buy one of these today and the Core i version ships in a few weeks. I see that the rumors have started and my question is, if you had to guess, would you think the Core i 3/5/7 model would be released by the years end? Also, do you expect the price...

switch the CTRL and FN keys
details
Hi everyone. Coming from the hybrid worlds of PC and Mac (meaning I use constantly both at work, etc), I hate the positioning of the FN key on Macbooks at the edge instead of the ctrl key. Especially when I switch between tabs on a browser back and forth, I like holding the ctrl and shit keys with my thumb and the tab key with my index. Also whenever I work on my PC computer at work or my regular Apple keyboard, the ctrl key is at the edge making me constantly having to get used to a different... Read more →

Installing snow leopard. Clean install Vs. Upgrade
details
Are you guys doing a clean install on your 13" or just an upgrade? I got my macbook at the end of June so I dont think it's necessary for me to go through a clean install (reformatting my drive and installing snow leopard on a clean HD) so I am simply doing an upgrade tonight when I get home... What do you all think?

Upgrade to Snow Leopard for $10 if you have a Current-Gen Macbook
details
If you purchased a Mac with OSX Leopard (10.5) on or after June 8, 2009 you can qualify to upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6) for only $10 instead of the $29 it would cost if you purchased it before Snow Leopard was announced. Since this is the same day all current-generation Macbooks (Including the 13" Macbook Pro) were announced, you qualify. This deal is for any new Macs, but since this is the one I own I put it here. See this link for more details and to make your purchase:... Read more →

Scuffs? Scratches? Dings? Mayhem?
details
I was just cleaning my screen with the included cleaning cloth and a bit of water. I got a little crazy and decided to clean the keyboard and lid as well. When I started scrubbing some tougher "stains" on the top of the lid, they appeared to get worse, and it seems I have rubbed a chink of polish right off the lid of my new Macbook Pro!!! What just happened??

Best Internal Hard Drive for the 13-inch MacBook Pro?
details
Just got my 13inch MBP yesterday - the first thing I did was throw in the 320GB HDD (7200 RPM) from my old Mac. It's working flawlessly so far, but I'm starting to get a little cramped on space, and I figure now is as good a time as any to upgrade. Any tips as to the best laptop HDD out there that's compatible with the MacBook Pro? I'd prefer 7200 RPM, as I'm pretty used to the speed of my current drive. Also, while SSD seems pretty great, the price/capacity ratio just... Read more →

Adobe Flash Performance Question
details
Hello, My wife is really into all those Facebook games. She likes to keep up to 4 running in other tabbed windows and switch between them. She finds the performance on her current (Vista) laptop very poor when she has anymore than just 2 Flash games running. Can anyone tell me how the performance is on the 13" MBP with more than 4 Flash games running? Most importantly, does the foreground Flash application run smooth at all times? She is basing her decision on this. Thanks!
