I have a macbook pro from 2009 with a 2.53 core 2 duo processor. It is crazy fast because I have 8gb of ram in it and a 120 gb ssd. It beats all the newest late 2011 thunderbolt macbook airs in the shop on boot up speed even though they also use flash storage. My question is that is it worth getting a new macbook pro with an i7 processor and put my 8gb ram in and my ssd or will there not be a big difference? xbench score is 139.76 if anyone has an 8gb i7 ssd macbook pro can you please post your...
6 months ago, I installed a Disk Doubler SSD drive in place of the DVD drive: 1. Amazing speed improvement. Cold boot time is sub 10seconds, launch Chrome beowser is sub 1second. Overall, I would describe performance as 5x. 2. Installation is scary with all those delicate parts, but all tools are included and videos exist. 3. After you move iTunes and iPhoto library to the old spinning drive, the SSD is about 30-40GB (60GB is the optimal size to install) 4. Cost is about $150 and 2hours install...
I'm going to guess it has to do with Bluetooth & WiFi interference.
Essentially, I'll sling files from my external HD to or from my NAS. And my Magic Trackpad will go through a series of "Connection Lost" and "Connected" notifications. This is a brand new Magic Trackpad as I've exchanged my old one for this exact reason.
Does anyone know what's going on and what I can do, besides switching to Ethernet?
I want to double the battery life of my Macbook. Ideally this is what I want: - Battery to be small and light in my day bag (I would prefer direct battery to magsafe rather than via an inverter & power supply). - Minimal extra cables & boxes. Prefer to charge via Mac power supply or USB via the laptop. - Would be great if it also had a USB output to charge an iphone on the go.
I recently installed an SSD in my mid-2009 MacBook Pro. I used the clean install method. After a while, it began not letting me change the volume, at all. When I use the keyboard buttons, I get the slash symbol, akin to when the ambient light sensor won't let you change the keyboard light. I've reinstalled again, and after about a day, the same issue has cropped up. Help please!
I currently have a MBP 13 inch 2010 with 8GB of Ram and a 500 GB HDD. My question is the following: Should I
1) just buy an SSD to upgrade my MBP for the cost of an SSD around 128 GB
or
2) sell my MBP I will roughly get $800 for it and purchase a brand new macbook air 11-inch with 128 SSD. If I . So I'm not looking at a huge price difference between the two decisions.
I've never set reset my PRAM before. What should I expect? Will I need to change anything back afterword? I found this info on apple's website describing what PRAM stores (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379):
I am looking to replace my aging MacBook Pro 13" for university. I am completely torn between the Dell XPS 15z and the HP Envy 14 Beats. Originally I was thinking that I didn't want anything bigger than a 14" but the HP is a 14.5" and the Dell is pretty much the same weight. The specs are pretty much the same save for the Optimus on the Dell, and the 1080p screen I would option for; the prices are the same too. HP's intention to spin-off their PC business, leaves me a little weary of purchasing...

I want to record NY Giants games in HD on my Macbook Pro this fall. I'm looking for something that can grab OTA HDTV signals without an antenna or cables. I find them to be an eyesore. Am I being unrealistic?
My 2011 MBP 13'' has one headphone jack, that according to the manual has both audio in and out. I want to use my gaming headset which has two jacks, one for audio in and one for mic out. So my question for the community is: Is there somewhere a converter/plug that allows these two jacks to become one, so my MBP will accept it?
Since upgrading to OS X Lion, RAM in my Mac has be disappearing fast. I currently have 4gb and i also do a lot of 3d modeling and rendering. Should I do the upgrade or wait for updates and optimizations for Lion?
I have a separate Samsung 24 inch display attached to my Macbook Pro running Lion. Is there any way to make the other display act as another space or "desktop" and not just be a continuation of my current display?
I have a pre-Lion early 2011 unibody Macbook Pro and I'd like to remap the Dashboard key to Launchpad (I'm already running Lion on this machine). I'd like to remap the key on my BT Apple keyboard as well.
I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Lion on Wednesday. This weekend I've started to notice my wifi connection completely dropping with an exclamation mark in the wifi fan. Switching wifi on and off doesn't seem to help. I was able to reconnect by switching to my 2.4GHz wifi network, rebooting the AirportExpress which is extending my 5GHz wifi network and reconnecting to the 5GHz network. I have been using the Airport Express to extend the network for 8 months now with no issues until this weekend. I...

I just put in a Seagate Momentus XT to try to speed up my computer and it didn't do much. I don't want to spend for an SSD. Got any other reccommendations?
When I use FireFox I 3 finger swipe left/right to go back and forth between webpages. When I want to go all the way to the top/bottom of a page, I 3 finger swipe up/down. This doesn't seem to be working in FireFox anymore. How do I get it back?
Apple modestly tweaks the 13" Unibody but adds the Pro. Changes from the unibody MacBook (sans-pro) are generally welcome. The price was lowered by $100, a backlit keyboard, and Firewire 800 were added among other features. The non-removable battery performance is rated for 10 hours of screensaver watching, but seems to get 3-5 hours with normal use. The SD port addition is convenient, though several years behind OEM additions of multi-card readers. A new screen has improved brightness and viewing angles, and the allowable 8GB of RAM adds some serious potential for 64-Bit apps.
