Is this MBP's boot time really slow, or is it just me?
details
So I just bought this shiny new MacBook Pro almost a month ago, 13", even sprung for the i7 instead of the i5. But from the very first time I tried to boot it up, the boot has always been massively slow! It would take about 55 seconds or longer to go from pushing the power button to arriving at the login screen -- this isn't including re-launching any programs, mind you, as I don't have it set to autologin. I even upgraded it to 8 gigs of ram, and it had -no- effect on the boot time whatsoever.... Read more →

FYI: If you install 8Gb Ram in new 13" MB Pro, you go from 384mb of video Ram to 512mb
details
I was happily surprised to find that when I upgraded to 8gb of DDR3 1333mhz ram in my Core i5 Base model Macbook Pro, I went from 384mb of shared Vram to 512mb Vram. I am not sure how much of a difference this will make with the HD 3000 graphics but in theory it should give it a slight boost in performance. Also my Geekbench scores (64 Bit) is 6546 with the 8gb of ram in stalled up from around 5900..

Engadget has a nice overview of all the changes: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/24/apple-refreshes... I'm a little disappointed that the 13" still has a 1280x800 resolution screen. I would consider picking one up if it was 1440x900, which is plausible... Read more →
