Those on a budget may find the premium hard to swallow, but those with the cash to match the asking price here won't be disappointed after they get a taste of Retina.

Apple's latest 13-inch MacBook Pro includes an ulra-sharp Retina display, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt, a fast solid-state drive, and a great keyboard, resulting in what Engadget calls " a comprehensively powerful little machine, a beautifully engineered one to boot." However, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is $500 more than the still-available non-Retina model, and the MacBook Air remains our top choice among 13-inch Apple laptops. But, as LaptopMag notes, the new MacBook Pro is "a quantum leap better than the regular MacBook Pro and other ultaportable notebooks. Are all of these improvements worth $500 more? We say yes. Getting this much visual detail and responsiveness in something you can take anywhere has absolutely spoiled us."

The Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (Retina Display) is the best way to carry the pixels of a large-screen monitor with you on the road. It's ideal for people who make their living with visuals.
Read the full review →People love the combination of performance and portability that the 13-inch MacBook Pro provides. The 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro is poised to continue the legacy of Apple's mighty little laptop.
Read the full review →My take is that the Retina display MacBook Pro offers a compelling bundle of features housed in an impressive chassis, with plenty of horsepower and, of course, the screen that makes it special. In short, this machine has won me over. It scores high marks everywhere it counts.
Read the full review →It’s still a pricey beast, but the use value to cost ratio is through the roof regardless.
Read the full review →While the Retina MacBook Pro is easily the most desirable 13-inch Mac laptop to date, the high price and lack of discrete graphics make it a tough call versus either the more powerful 15-inch Retina Pro or the more affordable 13-inch Air.
Read the full review →The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a lot like the iPhone 5. Apple took a winning formula and perfected it by making it thinner, lighter and faster. But in this case the display isn't bigger. It's a quantum leap better than the regular MacBook Pro and other ultraportable laptops.
Read the full review →In the end, the 13" Retina MacBook Pro is a solid laptop. Despite this, it's not the greatest value. If you want a 13" laptop with a Retina display, you have to accept quite a few compromises.
Read the full review →The point is, the rMBP 13 is wonderful, but it's not that much more wonderful than everything else. ...there are better, or just more sensible options either out now, or just off the horizon. So unless you've got an extra grand to blow on a screen upgrade for a MacBook Air, it's probably prudent to...
Read the full review →While the Air might be the smallest of Apple’s notebook line-up, the 13-inch Pro hits a more palatable sweet-spot for balancing power, performance, and functionality. At $1,699 and up, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display sits at the premium end of the notebook market.
Read the full review →As a MacBook Pro we worry that this won't be powerful enough for you, as a MacBook Air it's a lot fatter and heavier for a device that doesn't give you much above and beyond what the Air delivers.
Read the full review →If you can live without the Retina display, it is much more sensible to get the MacBook Air 13-inch if you are looking for a nice thin and light laptop. If you absolutely have to have a Retina display notebook, you will be a lot happier to find a refurbished 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro.
Read the full review →After the stellar 15" version, this year's 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display won us over with its impeccable finishing, quality screen, silent fan, battery life and processing power.
Read the full review →Professionals who demand the best will warm to the new MacBook instantly but cautious consumers not purchasing the MacBook on a business account should be more wary of the performance vs price ratio compared to the 2011 model.
Read the full review →Some might find the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display prohibitively expensive, but it's ideal for graphic artists, photographers, video professionals or indeed anyone who benefits from its incredible screen.
Read the full review →Apple’s MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display is a worthy smaller sibling to the earlier 15-inch version, bringing the MacBook Pro and Air lines closer together than ever with its gorgeous, sleek chassis. It’s beautifully crafted, offers great ergonomics, and its ‘Retina’ screen is simply...

Read the full review →Certainly a gorgeous machine, ultraportable. Great for those of you who have a MacBook Air 13-inch but always wanted something a little bit smarter and you don't mind a half a pound to go with it.
Read the full review →Over all i love my 13 inch macbook pro with retina display. But with that said I have three things that i don't like. 1. the 128GB hard drive is very hard to live on i filled it up in a few days. I really suggest getting the 256gb or bigger but i couldn't afford the 2k plus price to upgrade...
Read the full review →I worked for Apple for a long time. This is a great overall machine. 128GB SSD on the low end model for 1700 is a little hard to swallow. If you are going for a smaller machine with a great resolution display do yourself a favor and get the 256GB SSD version for 300$ more. Other than that a great...
Read the full review →Comparing to my last Macbook Pro (non-retina) with a solid state, this one falls short on stability and performance. It is still great relatively speaking, but not as good as my last Macbook Pro.
Read the full review →I'm greatly satisfied with my purchase and I am so glad that ignored all the low tech reviews. I would have ended up paying about $500 extra for the 15-inch when the 13-inch is more than enough powerful. If you're deciding between this and a 13-inch Air I'd say buy the 13-inch with Retina...
Read the full review →It was a hard decision between the 13" and the 15" Retina, but in the end, I decided to go with the smaller machine. Coming from a MacBook Air 11", I've grown to appreciate the smaller size. Besides, I knew I would probably run it in scaled resolution for the most real estate possible. I enjoyed...
Read the full review →The machine is beautiful to look at and a pure pleasure to use. I upgraded from a 2007 MacBook so the leap for me was quite significant. The multitouch trackpad is quite intuitive. It makes no sound whatsoever, quite a change from my older machine, whose fan would turn on very quickly. Writing...
