New wired keyboard, and not an Apple one. UK Mac layout, scissor-action.
details
It's probably a testament to Apple's marketing and styling abilities that they can get away with making such a godawful scissor-action keyboard. Most people apparently equate an immovable baseplate as 'quality' regardless of the key action. I was never a fan of the pre-unibody Macbook Pro key feel (quite apart from the silver keys which meant the backlight actually helped the legends disappear in certain lighting), but it got worse with the unibody. I can deal with it without... Read more →

New desktop?
details
I'm cleaning out my current home desktop to give to a minion. It's an HP Z800 (http://gdgt.com/hp/z800/) with a single hexacore, a single GTX 480 and a terabyte SSD array. I'd like to keep with the single-hexacore (but maybe go for a faster one) and single 480-class performance in general, as well as the array with the new machine. My priorities are a) stability under load b) quietness c) power (as long as it meets the above requirements). Expandability is not the biggest... Read more →

Gulftown refresh?
details
Gulftowns are already in service for me on HP hardware, and I'll be looking to boost my Apple quotient slightly this year. Anyone know why the Gulftowns haven't turned up yet on the Pros? I can't imagine it's a power issue as although the Mac Pros have a home computer load/cooling profile than a genuine workstation load/cooling profile, the TDP's haven't changed.

Looking for a good set of speakers for my Mac Pro, any recommendations?
details
My main computer which I do most of my work, gaming, ect. , is a Mac Pro. I had built a Windows based PC a couple years ago and it is now out of date. I have a 5.1 surround sound setup that I got for my PC, only problem is that my Mac seems to only take optical audio (or headphone jack). Unlike my PC it doesn't have the same setup. Im not really looking for the surround sound setup, just a good set of speakers that I can use with my Mac Pro. Anyone have any recommendation? Thanks in advance

Furniture (armoire) that will accept a Mac Pro
details
I need to move my Mac Pro from my home-office into the bedroom due to the new twins in the house (thank you very much). I would like to purchase a "computer armoire" that would allow me to shut the doors and not be staring at my office when I do not need to. Herein lies the problem: the Mac Pro tower is bigger than most and I have been unable to find any furniture that can accept it without major cabinetry work. Adding to the problem is the 40 linear inches of monitor (horizontal,... Read more →

Top Mac Pro Video Card
details
I currently own an Apple Mac Pro with the 8-core CPU, 6GB of RAM, and the crappy 2600HD Radeon that it shipped with. Obviously somethings is wrong here. My GPU is lagging way behind the rest of my machine. I am shopping video cards for it right now and I thought a gdgt discussion would help me out a lot! FYI - I do a lot of graphic design/ video editing work (not to mention I love to play games) Which is better: ATI's 4870 Video Card or Nvidia's GTX 285 Please let me know what your...

"upgraded superdrive"
details
I own a 1st gen Mac Pro (2,66 GHz). I LOVE IT! BUT... When it was released it shipped with a x12sony drive, which in reality was a NEC drive with x16 IF you flashed the ROM. I did this. Now sometimes I get the glitch that the drive would not eject the disc, especially after e.g. ripping a CD to iTunes. Whats worse is that whenever this happens the computer doesn't shut-down correctly (hello "off-button" my old friend)... Does anyone have similar experiences with a flashed or...

Has anyone installed any SSD's in their Mac Pro?
details
If I were going to do one performance upgrade to my machine (aside from the video) this would be it. I've read in different forums that some SSD's have issues with the Mac file system and/or being formatted to a different format. I'd like to try a RAID setup to improve performance when reading and writing, and working with large files. What is your experience with SSD's in the Mac Pro?
