Why is my MacBook Pro freezing?
details
I have a MacBook Pro 13.3" that was bought in 2010 running Snow Leopard (10.6). Since February, my laptop has been freezing and causing me to have to manually power it off. It started off being every once in a while but lately it will occur at least every half hour, sometimes sooner; they happen out of the blue.
Some of the things that Apple technicians have tried are, deleting my network settings, re-installing the OS software, cleaning the hard drive (clean install), and then a complete system... Read more →

Can any Hackintosh experts help me get WiFi working on my HP Mini 1000?
details
I installed OS X 10.6 on my old HP Mini 1000 netbook the other day, and everything is running more or less fine except for on thing: I can't get WiFi working. Any Hackintosh experts have any suggestions? Nothing I've tried so far, including installing different kexts, has worked. The Mini 1000 boots up just fine, trackpad is working, etc.

UPDATE: Ended up digging some more and found a different kext which worked!

Downgrading from Lion back to Snow Leopard
details
I jumped on the Lion bandwagon when I got my 4S for all the iCould compatibility. But after a month or two I've found that I don't use Mission Control (I liked expose better), and launch pad is useless, since I keep all my mostly used apps in stacks or quick launch with spotlight. And all the auto syncing of things to my phone is done by iTunes wirelessly. Theres a few other beefs I have too, but their minor.
I never had any crashes or anything, but I just feel like Lion is more unstable. I do... Read more →

How can I make applications maximize to the full screen size?
details
One of the only things that bothers me about Mac OSX's GUI is that when I like the "+" button to maximize a window, it doesn't maximize the window to the full screen width and height. I know it sounds bad to say that I would like it to work like Windows, but my question is: Is there any way to change this behavior?

How to edit the Mac OS X hosts file?
details
I can't seem to edit the hosts file (/etc/hosts). I've tried:
127.0.0.1 http://www.google.com
127.0.0.1 www.google.com
127.0.0.1 google.com

And I've run the terminal command: dscacheutil -flushcache

And I've tried using Gas Mask app: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/29949/gas-mask

My understanding is that pairing a URL with 127.0.0.1 tells the system to look for the URL at the paired IP address.

Can you download other voices for Mac OS X?
details
Daved asked a question yesterday about Siri's grating voice:

http://gdgt.com/question/does-anyone-else-find-siri-s-computerized-voice-to-be-a-little-grating-gh0/

This got me thinking about the voices that come pre-installed in Mac OS X for text-to-speech and accessibility purposes. Is it possible to download more voices to install in my Mac? I so want to make my Mac sound like the Wall-E Autopilot.

Every time I logon to my OS X Snow Leopard machine, Finder opens up windows for all my network shares. How do I stop it from doing so?
details
I have a OS X machine that has mapped network connections to my Windows Home Server. When I logon to the desktop from a reboot, Finder will open all those network connections as a separate window (eg 8 network connections, 8 open windows). I want the network connections as shortcuts on my desktop, but not have the open windows.

How do I change the shortcut "cmd + left/cmd + right" to per word instead of per line?
details
In Windows, the default keyboard shortcut "ctrl + left/right arrow key" is for jumping to the start or end of each word but in OS X, the shortcut "cmd +left/right arrow key" is for jumping to the start or end of a line. Is there any way I can change the behavior of this shortcut? I couldn't seem to find it in the Keyboard section of System Preferences.
