  • Ease of use A big improvement on OS 8.0/8.1. good
  • Speed Now that it was native PPC code, every PPC computer ran faster with it. great!
  • Configurability More flexible than OS 8.1 ever was. good
  • Ecosystem (apps, drivers, etc.) Only thing it lacked was support for the original iTunes. so-so
  • Openness It's pre-UNIX Mac OS. awful!
Detailed review
8.5 and 8.6, pretty much the best of the pre-OS X Mac OS versions. Very few drawbacks, and almost any Classic software runs on these versions of OS X. 8.6 is more stable.
