Apple pushed out iOS 4.0.2 today to fix the PDF exploit used by the jailbreakme crew.
details
The crazy thing about this is that since Apple didn't develop iOS 4 for the original iPhone and the original iPod touch, these devices are effectively unsecured and vulnerable to the PDF exploit made famous by Jailbreak.me. In theory, a malicious user could use the same exploit for more nefarious purposes and totally own your phone or your iPod. It's kind of a bummer that Apple won't continue to push a security update for a device that's only 3 years old.

After nearly three glorious years of heavy daily use, my little window into the future has blinked out.
details
I spilled beer on my 1st-gen touch, which killed the backlight. I opened it using the iFixit teardown / screen replacement guide to try and clean any shorts or corrosion, and I thought I was really careful, but now it doesn't work at all. I think I put too much stress on the battery. So now I am iPodless. My wife has been letting me borrow her 4th-gen Nano, but all you touch owners know it's just not the same. I am, therefore, trapped in limbo, between devices. Now that the iPod touch... Read more →

The DoJ are now investigating whether or not Apple is abusing it's position at the top of the digital music ladder, but isn't it the music industry…
details
that put them there in the first place by anointing the iPod and iTunes are their own personal saviour? Now Steve Jobs appears to be slapping the record labels around with demands for exclusivity on certain tracks, but the labels are still sticking by Apple when there's plenty of other all-you-can-eat music services that will happily license the music and break Apple's monopoly almost overnight. Services like Spotify, Napster, and Zune are already part of the way there, but there are... Read more →

In the lead up to this little Apple event revealing something of iPhone OS 4.0, I thought about back when I first purchased my ipod touch 1st gen....
details
Mobile Safari would crash every second time and the overall functionality was really pretty limited. I know what we (iphone/ipod touch users) are all waiting just obvious improvements with the OS - things like just backgrounding apps that I can do with an old Nokia e65 from years ago, and I believe these things will come along in due course. I just thought it a nice little trip down memory lane to version 1 mobile safari and mess that it used to put some people in! Nice to see improvements in... Read more →

Voice and Photo recognition
details
In my opinion, the best app for the Iphone has already been identified as the getfugu app. I'm more into apps that give me that feeling of utilizing something futuristic. The Iphone app is for mobile search the best way possible. It recognized even my Daybreakers movie poster and I was able to get information in no time. I'll look into other Iphone apps and see how they compare.

Play audio only off of any video
details
So I discovered a method of playing the audio track from any video while browsing. Normally any time you exit a video you can't play the audio like you can with music while browsing, etc. The way to do this is play your video, exit to the home screen, lock the touch, "double tap" to play audio, unlock the touch. You're now free to listen while browsing or whatever! This may be documented somewhere, but really seems like a trick to me.

Wallet Case?
details
I've never used a case for my iPhone. I've just kept it alone in my left front pants pocket. Case History (pun intended): With my first Palm Pilot I had a belt case with a belt loop (NOT a clip). It worked great for about four years until it wore out. I I've had several cases since then, belt holster and pocket with folding or flip lids and have been generally disappointed. What's wrong with having a good secure holster with a belt loop? With all of belt cases I've had after... Read more →

What to do with a broken iPod touch…
details
Hi guys, I had one of these original 8GB ones; in June 2008 it went for a swim, and hasn’t worked since (AppleCare returned it to me saying it had been underwater, so they wouldn’t fix it). It’s been in my room for a year, and I just discovered it again while cleaning some stuff out. Does anybody have any advice as to what to do with it? http://www.buymytronics.com/ seem to be offering me $15, or I could take it apart for a little ‘fun’, or… anything else I can do?

How to get music from iPod to PC?
details
My roommate just got a new iPod Touch and a new Mac, and he wants to take his music off of his old iPod and put it on his new Mac. Does anyone know a good program to grab the music from his iPod? I was thinking old iPod > PC, PC > Mac, Mac > new iPod. I've used a number of programs for this in the past, but I do not remember which one I liked the best. Also, I would like to have a place to go back to if I ever need to do this again. Thanks, lemme know whatcha got!

Is Steve Jobs hinting that I need to upgrade? Duke Nukem 3G won't run.
details
When I saw that Duke Nukem 3D had been ported to the iPhone OS, I jumped straight in to order it on my touch, only to be rejected! The App Store said that needed a microphone, which seems unlikely, but isn't the CPU in the 1st Gen the same as the 1st Gen iPhone? Not that I mind n this specific case, as the game is getting some poor reviews so far - it's a very accurate port, but as with a lot of ported games, the control system is something they've had trouble with. But is this a... Read more →
