This thing is a great utility. I have an iPhone, but I don't like listening to music or watching video on that.
I like how I can just turn this thing on, choose a song, and go.

Great product but the headphone socket has gone, only getting audio through one channel.
Lasted quite some time though

I think out of all the small handheld devices I've owned that play music, this one might have been my favorite.
It may not have had a touchscreen, or an app store... It didn't make phone calls, or connect to the internet... but I'm starting to think that maybe all that stuff gets in the way, and all I need is a good music player that does a good job playing music. I might pick up one of these on ebay or something, and see if my thoughts hold up with actual use. Thoughts?

iPodWizard.net
Does anyone else remember this site? I used to mess around on here for hours every day. I loved "hacking" my iPod with custom strings and graphics. This was really my first introduction into computer anything. I learned so much from this site.

search
because there is no keyboard no bluetooth yet the search is kinda lame if your looking for two titles you have to delete the first search completely before attempting to get the second title this is usually the time I forget important data and give up the search.. not funny if your making money

Custom Firmware
Thought I might pass this on, you can get custom firmware for the iPod 5th gen to make it look like it is an iPod Classic. http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=40073 si the URL, I use it and it really does look like it is an iPod classic.

HD Upgrade
My 5.5 gen is still running great, but I've filled up its 30GB drive. After looking around a bit, it doesn't really seem cost effective to upgrade the drive (prices ranging from $150 - 200), when that is almost the price of a new classic. At that point I'd rather just pay the extra money for a new battery, warranty, etc. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I looking for drives in the wrong place?

It Just Won't Die!!!
My iPod has been fine for years now and it's kind of making me mad. I really want to get an ipod touch but since this thing is still kickin' there is no reason for me to buy one. Has anyone else had this luck with it.

Rockbox
Rockbox.org I don't even have iTunes installed anymore-- rockbox is great! If you really crave a syncing solution, you could look into Toucan ( http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/toucan/ ) How to install: 1. Download the Rockbox Utility ( http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/Rockbox... ) 2. Point it to your iPod 3. SPECIFY HDD SIZE! The utility cannot tell the difference between the 60/80GB models and the 30GB model, but it is necessary to select the correct one! Under the...

Logic board
Did anybody else have their logic board get fried on their 5th gen iPod? Mine burned out after about 2 years. You can tell if it's the logic board because the songs will play and you'll see it come across on the screen, but it won't send out any audio unless you press down on the bottom right corner really hard.
