The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.

iTunes University
Lately I've discovered the beauty of free online classes via iTunesU. Has anyone else taken or is currently taking a class on iTunesU. If you have, which classes would you highly recommend? What's your thoughts on iTunesU?

How do you like iCloud's PhotoStream?
I was wondering what you think of the rather new PhotoStream service. I've been using it quite a lot (or trying to) - and I don't like it very much so far. It simply doesn't work well for me most of the time. For example, last night i got back home from a two days trip and imported all my DSLR photos into iPhoto (about 200 RAW photos). These are supposed to "immediately appear on all my devices". About 15 hourse have passed since the import and only 70% of the photos appear in my PhotoStream (my...

Preventing iPhone Damage Without Cases or Covers
It's hard not to really love the design of the iPhone 4 and 4S. However, we all know it's easy to damage.
I have tried many cases, and each of them protected my phone well. I'm currently using the Speck CandyShell case, and have used other Speck products as well. I have also gone with and without screen protectors (last time I went without, i paid dearly).
However, I want to be able to go naked next time I grab a new phone. Besides the obvious precautions, what do ya'll do to keep your uncovered...

There's an iOS app to scrobble tracks played through iTunes Match on your device!
This is pretty sweet! I'm an obsessive Scrobbler (that is to say, I love using apps that send what music I'm currently listening to to Last.FM). I don't keep much music on my phone, thanks to services like Rdio and Pandora, but there's still a basic playlist for emergencies.
I cringe whenever I listen to it though, since there's no easy way for me to send that data back to Last.FM if I use the iPod / Music function on my iPhone. This is especially irksome now that I'm using iTunes Match -- my... Read more →

The quick camera feature in iOS 5 is actually pretty neat...
One of the things that iOS 5 introduced is the ability the quickly open the camera from the lock screen by double clicking the home button. I was thinking about this earlier in the morning and noticed that I've subconsciously been using it to take most of my photos. Check out the steps below (it sounds complicated, but it ends up being pretty fast).
Let's say I'm reading gdgt while on the bus. All the sudden, some crazy guy whips out a light saber. Obviously, I want to take a picture of this.Hit...

Did you get iTether before Apple pulled it from the App Store? What do you think?
I snagged it this morning, but haven't yet had a chance to check it out. Will post impressions later!

iPhone 4S car mount recommendations?
Wondering what folks like as far as iPhone 4S car mounts/cradles. Preferably looking for something that swivels and has power/aux cords. But the key factor is that the mount functions well. My car has a lighter outlet at base of center console and cup holders. Would consider window mounts as well.

Receiving iMessages on multiple devices
So we had a question (http://gdgt.com/question/imessage-how-to-properly... about this a while ago but I just found some new information. gdgt won't let me answer a question multiple times so I made a new discussion thread for it.
First, make sure that on your iPhone you can receive messages at both your phone number AND your email address.
Now, if you go to Settings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Caller ID, you can set your Caller ID... Read more →

iPhone 4 iOS5: Pandora and Spotify Playback Stutter
I've noticed this on more than one occasion. I get a phone call while in the middle of streaming music from either Pandora or Spotify. I answer the call, and then hang up. iPhone goes back to playing music, but now it's stuttering. Only when you actually fire up the app again that the music will start playing fine again.
Anyone else experiencing this? FYI this happens even if you don't have any other apps running in the background.

Why I Don't Use an Android Based Phone
Some History
I used to be an avid Palm fan when they came out with their first handheld and then their Treo. I eventually picked up a first generation iPhone after it had been out for about 8 months. I then went to a 3GS and now the 4S. I have tried Android based phones for short periods of time, say hours, not days, so I am by no means anywhere near an expert on Android based phones. I am also not writing this to try and get anybody to switch, only just to have a lively discussion.

What are the issues that bother you the most regarding iOS 5? (we'll try getting Apple to fix them!)
So iOS 5 is out. Personally I like it a lot. Seems to me that this is also the general sentiment (aside of some initial traffic overload problems).
Anyway, there's no denial that iOS 5 still has some rather serious issues in it.
Personally, the one that bothers me the most is the iMessage issue (http://gdgt.com/question/imessage-how-to-properly... iMessages that are directed to your cell number, only arrive at your iPhone and not your... Read more →

Bad battery life in iOS 5?
Since installing the public iOS 5 release on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 earlier this week I've had my battery completely drain out on both devices overnight (which rarely ever happens -- usually only if I leave on a location app or something), and tonight I noticed it was sucking down juice quickly as well.
I ran a stats app which showed me that my phone was operating steadily at 90%+ CPU utilization, which seemed really odd to me. I rebooted and after it came back up I explicitly started no other... Read more →

Some thoughts on this week's Apple announcements
So, the rumors weren't true.
New-iPhone-mania was kicked off earlier this year by a big story purporting that the 2011 iPhone wouldn't, in fact, be a "spec bump to the iPhone 4" (which we now know it is), and that the device would be a "completely redesigned handset" with a "teardrop" shape with a "swipe area," and potentially also inductive charging.
There were also stories that another prototype iPhone handset was lost in Asia this year, which led to all the speculative case designs we saw... Read more →
