http://notesofgenius.com/media/2012/10/LG-Nexus-4-Camera.jpg Although the iPhone 4 was the first mainstream smartphone to have a full glass back, the Nexus 4 seems to be the first phone to have the entire back cover also act as the camera cover glass. Theoretically, Gorilla Glass 2 would be good for the durability of the camera area but is Gorilla Glass 2 glass of the same optical grade as other cover glass used on smartphone cameras? Although the "cover glass" is not the same as the "lens", I...

Choosing a smartphone/tablet case SUCKS! It is probably the most difficult tech-product to choose. Which is gdgt's goal: helping people choose the gadget or product that is best suited for them. So, I think you should make a "Cases" category, which will be divided into sub-categories, for each device. Of course, only the popular devices, like the iPhone 4/4S, iPad 2/new iPad, Samsung Galaxy S III, another Android device (HTC One X, for example)...
I accidentally dropped my iPhone in the toilet last night! I grabbed it right as it slid in there, only hit the water for a fraction of a second. Instantly shook it off and toweled it dry. Turned it off and immediately jammed it into a bag of uncooked white rice because I've always heard that helps. I checked it this morning, 12 hours later, and everything seemed to actually be working great. The only problem seemed to be the mute/silent switch was acting up. I turned it back off and left it in...

Asked by The Daily Telegraph which one Apple product he would like to be remembered by, Apple head of design Sir Jony Ive replied : “It’s a really tough one. A lot does seem to come back to the fact that what we’re working on now feels like the most important and the best work we’ve done, and so it would be what we’re working on right now, which of course I can’t tell you about.” What could Sir Jony and Apple be possibly working on? Share your ideas with the gdgt community here! You...

Been thinking about posting a thread like this every once in a while to check in on the latest in apps. So tell us, what are your favorite iOS apps these days? Here's how to post an app:
Check to see if the app you'd like to post is already posted. If so, just vote it up! No need to re-post it.
If it's not already up, post it alone (i.e. one app per post) for others to vote up. Feel free to explain why you like it so much, favorite features, etc.! Oh, and post a link if possible!
One industry expert thinks Apple is about to launch its own mobile service, and cut out those pesky carriers and their bothersome contract terms. Of course, in order to do so, Apple would still need to cut deals with carriers to operate on their networks, becoming a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), much like Virgin Mobile, which runs on Sprint's network in the US. Still, being a carrier, even a virtual one, would allow Apple to do things like sell data plans via the iTunes store, and more...

Hi i'm running regularly using Nike+ on my iphone (without a sensor) i have had to take several runs to calibrate it until it now actually seems to register the correct distance compared with the map. Two related questions. 1. After i finish every run i always get the message "No GPS data available" and it won't show a map (i have to manually input to nike) Is there somewhere i need to "switch on" GPS? 2. If GPS is on by default and nike+ is supposed to use it, then how come it has been so...

According to a new survey, most smartphone users want larger screens; the 4-to-4.5-inch range is apparently the sweet spot. As the former owner of both a 3.5-inch iPhone and 5-inch Dell Streak, and the current owner of a 4.5-inch Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, I'd say that sounds about right. I found the iPhone's display too small for texting, reading or watching videos (though it was fine for Angry Birds). The Dell Streak, at the time the largest smartphone in existence, was great for all of...

The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.
Lately I've discovered the beauty of free online classes via iTunesU. Has anyone else taken or is currently taking a class on iTunesU. If you have, which classes would you highly recommend? What's your thoughts on iTunesU?
I was wondering what you think of the rather new PhotoStream service. I've been using it quite a lot (or trying to) - and I don't like it very much so far. It simply doesn't work well for me most of the time. For example, last night i got back home from a two days trip and imported all my DSLR photos into iPhoto (about 200 RAW photos). These are supposed to "immediately appear on all my devices". About 15 hourse have passed since the import and only 70% of the photos appear in my PhotoStream (my...

It's hard not to really love the design of the iPhone 4 and 4S. However, we all know it's easy to damage. I have tried many cases, and each of them protected my phone well. I'm currently using the Speck CandyShell case, and have used other Speck products as well. I have also gone with and without screen protectors (last time I went without, i paid dearly). However, I want to be able to go naked next time I grab a new phone. Besides the obvious precautions, what do ya'll do to keep your uncovered...
This is pretty sweet! I'm an obsessive Scrobbler (that is to say, I love using apps that send what music I'm currently listening to to Last.FM). I don't keep much music on my phone, thanks to services like Rdio and Pandora, but there's still a basic playlist for emergencies. I cringe whenever I listen to it though, since there's no easy way for me to send that data back to Last.FM if I use the iPod / Music function on my iPhone. This is especially irksome now that I'm using iTunes Match -- my...

One of the things that iOS 5 introduced is the ability the quickly open the camera from the lock screen by double clicking the home button. I was thinking about this earlier in the morning and noticed that I've subconsciously been using it to take most of my photos. Check out the steps below (it sounds complicated, but it ends up being pretty fast). Let's say I'm reading gdgt while on the bus. All the sudden, some crazy guy whips out a light saber. Obviously, I want to take a picture of this.
Wondering what folks like as far as iPhone 4S car mounts/cradles. Preferably looking for something that swivels and has power/aux cords. But the key factor is that the mount functions well. My car has a lighter outlet at base of center console and cup holders. Would consider window mounts as well.
