Detailed review
I upgraded to the 3GS from my 1st gen original iPhone and it is remarkable how much faster it is. Obviously the network speed going from Edge to 3G is much, much better, but the actual operating speed of the unit far exceeded my expectations.

Navigating around the UI is much more fluid. I've seen no hiccups, even when scrolling through large lists of songs on the iPod. There is a staggering difference when moving in and out of applications which I honestly didn't think would have been so noticeable. Things just fly in and out instantly the way you would want them to!

The new compass app is completely useless in a practical sense, but when you team it up with Maps, it is VERY helpful. Knowing which way you are pointed in an unfamiliar city can save you a lot of time and frustration so this feature is welcome even though on paper it seemed like a strange addition.

The storage increase was VERY needed as well. 32GB was kind of the sweet spot for me where I could have the selection of music I wanted with me at all times there but still have plenty of room for apps and to throw a couple of movies or TV shows on.

Overall my experience thus far with the 3GS has been overwhelmingly positive. The battery lasts me all day under normal usage and it hasn't had any overheating problems. The general snappiness of the unit is fantastic, and all the extra storage space is more than welcome! As I said, you won't find a lot of revolutionary changes, but what has been done has tweaked the platform just enough to make day to day usage an even better experience.
