AllThingsD says:

The iPhone 3G is hardly the first phone to run on 3G networks, and it still costs more than some of its competitors. But overall, I found it to be a more capable version of an already excellent device. quote

For our money, you're going to have a hard time finding a better device for two hundred bucks -- or maybe even for any price. But that doesn't mean you ought to toss your original iPhone, either.

The iPhone 3G is a nice upgrade. It more than keeps pace with advancing technology, and new buyers will generally be delighted. But it’s not so much better that it turns all those original iPhones into has-beens.

The iPhone 3G delivers on its promises by adding critical features and sharper call quality. The iTunes App Store is pretty amazing, and the 3G support is more than welcome. Critical features still are missing, and the battery depletes quickly under heavy use, but the iPhone 3G is a big improvement.

The iPhone 3G represents the birth of a new computing platform. It's also one very cool phone. While it's not perfect, it makes other options on AT&T look tired.

Despite the downbeat tune it is a thumbs up from us, but if you've got an old iPhone and aren't fussed about 3G or GPS, the iPhone 2.0 software update will mean the "buzz" phone of the moment is all but virtually in your pocket already.

While not everything on my wish list made it onto the new device, Apple has raised the bar with iPhone 3G. To which I offer an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Before recent iOS updates, the iPhone 3G performed well. Overall, the AT&T network cripples the phone. I used this phone primarily in the Boston area, where the network was almost unbearable (occasional dropped calls and sms, slow data). Paired with iTunes, syncing media is easy but slow. Camera...

The iPhone 3G was an ok phone running under iOS 3. However, the iOS 4 upgrade pretty much made the phone almost frustratingly unusable. The back of the phone had cracks for just being the only thing in my front pocket.
