Detailed review
Sexy Back
Yes, the original iPhone has a sexier back than the Plastic/Crack-a-lot 3G/3GS.
With 3.0 many have questioned if the jailbroken/hacking community is still relavent- with carriers like AT&T in the US- it STILL is!
It is extremely funny that I can send/receive MMS through the native Messages App with my 1st gen iPhone on T-Mobile and my cousin cannot do it on his 3GS on AT&T.
If you were an AT&T (non-jailbroken) iPhone customer you had to wait until 2009 to get video capability and that is only if you upgraded to 3GS- we have HAD video capability on our original iPhones via Cycorder- video is not a new feature for us.
A Jailbroken iPhone is a very different review, simply because the capabilities are so different than what Apple/AT&T provide.
AT&T has been getting A LOT of bad press lately, but Apple is not free from criticism-
Video capability ONLY on 3GS- Apple's decision
NO MMS on original iPhone- Apple's decision
NO A2DP on original iPhone-Apple's decision
NO Customization/Wallpaper/Skinning-Apple's decision
And remember it was Apple's decision to have AT&T as an exclusive carrier in the US.
Even though I live in the US...I like to travel and I love to use travel apps like Converter to check currency rates and translator apps via Cydia- but the BEST feature is being able to drop a prepaid SIM and use my iPhone without roaming rates. The best feature from the jailbroken community is still the unlock and it is something that is easiest to do on the 1st gen iPhone.
NOTE- I am envious of the countries that have an Apple unlocked phone- that law should be adopted by the US...pronto!
I remember the 1.0 days when we had vertical scrolling, the 2.0 days when SwirlyMMS was our method to MMS.
NES emulator...playing Mario on an iPhone STILL brings shock and awe from curious onlookers. "how the hell does his iPhone play nintendo games!"
The battery drain that 3G causes- non-existent on the original iPhone
3G dropped calls- non-existent
Overheating-non-existent
Stuck on a 2 year contract- original iPhone users never got a subsidy so we are not under contract
ohh yea...the pricing plans are a lot cheaper using T-Mobile in the US- I don't get visual voicemail, but that's no biggie- and it is probably a feature that gets added by the jailbreak comm. once T-Mobile launches their VVM service later this year.
I will eventually upgrade my iPhone...maybe Apple launches a new model with a physical keyboard in 2010, maybe they drop exclusivity with AT&T in the US (if they don't im either importing or paying the ETF!)
my iPhone can do anything your 3GS or 3G S or whatever you want to call it can do, and it won't overheat trying to do it.
EDGE is slow, but stable and refined
wifi is everywhere. LTE/wimax is coming- RIP 3G
