I'm about to write you all a book. Read it and love it, OR! just read the title, and answer. Post brought to you by zfwp (http://zakkforchilli.wordpress.com) iOS As of right now, to change your "theme" or Graphical User Interface (GUI)—you have to jailbreak your iOS device and download another third-party application. Almost every phone / Mobile OS I've ever used and almost every phone / Mobile OS I've ever heard of, seen, studied—has had the ability to change the look and feel of your general,...

Remember Camera+, the fantastic camera app that added a backdoor way to use the volume button as a shutter? After word of this spread around the internet, Apple pulled Camera+ from the App Store, since it used iPhone hardware buttons in an unauthorized way and could "potentially confuse users." (Which is funny, since you had to manually enable that option anyway, I don't think it was confusing at all -- one had to obviously know what they were doing in order to enable it!) Anyway,...

Using the process list on SBSettings, I always see that Skype is somehow open on my jailbroken iPhone, even after reboot. If I use the task manager in SBSettings to close it, it simply reappears a second later. Anyone have an idea of what's going on?
This is something I feel like I've noticed back on my iPhone 3GS and now my iPhone 4. After jailbreaking the phone, I really feel like the cellular radio software is much more finicky -- it potentially seems to crash a lot more. The only way I can quantify this is that I notice the bars seem to reset more often, that is to say, the go from 4 - 5 bars of service, to 1 or 0, and then back up to 4 or 5 after about 30 seconds. It could be observer bias on my part, since I'm much more...
(Here's the slide, complete with novelty-sized check: http://live.gdgt.com/2010/06/07/live-wwdc-2010-key... Very impressive stuff, but what does it mean for Apple? Well, with their current 70/30 split, $1b in developer payouts means that Apple has processed at least $1.43b in gross App Store sales (although it's probably more at this point, since the $1b was cited as a "recent" milestone Apple reached). In other words, Apple has made close to half a...

Here's mine, using iOS 4 on an iPhone 3GS: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rockbandit/4685494577... I probably use Twitter the most. Google Reader is another thing (webpage only) that I constantly use. Settings are in the dock since I'm always tinkering with things (brightness, wifi connections, etc). Anyway, share what you have and why!
Jobs, the head honcho for Apple, recently made an announcement that he wants the IPad and IPhone to be “porn-free.” Initially, this seems to be a great thing. Furthermore, Mr. Jobs certainly has the right to control his products and determine how they will be built. No one has to buy an Apple product if he does not want to. I personally have never been a fan of the Apple line of products. I did own an IPod classic (which in all fairness I used extensively, and loved), but I turned down an...

I know that you can get Dropbox for iPhone, but it doesn't work in the same way as it does on Windows or OSX - i.e. you have to go into the app, then find the file, etc. What I want is pretty simple, but ultimately undoubtedly very hard to achieve - at least one document, text-only is fine, readily accessible with one click from the home page / desktop of any of the above devices, which is live synced across all the devices (well - the N900 isn't an absolute must, but it must support...
After upgrading my iPhone to OS 3.1.3, to my surprise and delight while I was out of the house and in the unwashed masses, I was missing one of my smart playlists (of course, the one that has all my Top Rated tracks in it). I read around and found a quick and dirty solution for this: I made a new smart playlist with the same criteria as the missing one and synced that to my iPhone. After this, the missing playlist showed up, but the new one didn't. At least now I could listen to better music...
Probably worth discussing what the projected features will be in 4.0 since we all know the 3.x shortcomings? 1. Multitasking -- I figure this is the biggest feature we'll see. It'll likely require a lot of reengineering of apps. Anyone that has jail broken their phone with multitasking added knows that existing apps don't play nice with background processes often times. I imagine Apple will add some sort of application "state" to change app behavior if in the background. 2....

I'm really hoping for multiple Exchange accounts in OS 3.2 (and maybe on the iPad too). Our firm uses multiple Gmail and Exchange accounts, and as we all know Gmail is awesome on an iPhone using Google Sync, which is their Exchange interface. I even had to switch to the Nexus One to have multiple Gmail and Exchange accounts on my phone. Apple, if you can add additional Exchange accounts I will definitely come back. =)
Hey gdgt folk. I noticed that the 3.0 update on my iPhone is slow and launching apps produces lag or worse, the app crashes. Is 3.1 any better or faster?
Ok, I know this is second-fiddle to the new iPhone 3GS, but for those of us interested, what kind of features do you think the next-gen touch will include. We'll likely see in September or so, but in the mean time, let's speculate! I'd love to see a camera and maybe a GPS chip. . .likely? Unlikely? Dream away people.
