I recently dug my first generation iPhone out of a drawer and wanted to install some apps on it but most apps these days require at least iOS 4 to run. Is there a Cydia tweak that I can get to install these apps? I know not everything will work properly in the app via a hack like this but is it possible?

I've been using iOS since back in the day when it was called "iPhone OS" (i.e. 1.0 - 3.0), and I recently realized that I've never done a full manual restore of my iPhone system state. Everything I've got on my device(s) have been carried with me through successive backups and upgrades and each new iPhone release since 2007. I'm doing an article for my Professional Writing class, and while I'm looking specifically for apps essential to students, I'm looking for a few choice quotes that answer why your device of choice (whether it be Android, iOS, or Blackberry OS) fits into your life so well. Of course there's the fact that it's portable and can take the place of many other devices, etc, but what about specifics?

I was looking to free up some space on my hard drive and discovered my apps folder (/User/YOURUSERNAME/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/) is taking up about a gig, largely due to a bunch of older versions of iPhone apps that are clearly no longer needed. Example: AIM.ipa AIM 1.ipa AIM 1.1.3.ipa AIM 2.ipa AIM 3.ipa AIM 4.ipa AIM 4.3.3.ipa AIM 5.ipa I don't use a TON of apps so I can only imagine that for some people that folder is going to be even larger than a gig.

Layar, Lokast, Pandora, Shop Savvy, the multitude of GPS apps. Apps are awesome and I would like to here from the gdgt community their thoughts on which apps are the most useful. I just don't understand why there isn't already a section for apps, so why isn't there one, will there be one or did I somehow overlook it?
