Detailed review
I have less than 24 hours of iPad ownership under my belt. For much of that time my 12 year old nephew protected my iPad from me. Here's what I think after my first coffee, news, and cigarette on the deck morning with my iPad.
The screen is amazing. It washes out in the sun but remains perfectly readable. Inside it's gorgeous.
Wow fast. From scrolling to orientation switching the speed borders on predictive.
It's consumption optimized. I flew through my morning news perusal via BBC, NPR, NYT Editors Choice and the great but pricey NetNewsWire RSS reader app. Flipping the orientation back and forth the go full screen on articles you want to go full page with is just genius.
I don't hate the keyboard. If my hands weren't big enough to thumb type in either orientation, I think I might.
Mail really needs to allow a unified inbox. Also my biggest peeve on my iPhone. That said, clearing my inbox is easier on this than on my laptop.
Netflix. Near perfect.
I got goosebumps flipping through the free "Winnie the Pooh" iBook. Freak.
The screen does turn into a smudgy mess real quick. Kinda strange to realize just how much crap the human hand leaves behind.
The orientation lock was a good idea. It does unintentionally switch orientation sometimes.
Could this replace my computer? Absolutely not. I think it will become my preferred device for web content.
Yeah, it's pretty much a toy, but a useful toy, and a whole lot of fun.
