Last month's Wired magazine had a short piece by Steven Levy regarding the Smart Cover on the iPad 2 and the somewhat contentious relationship Apple has with accessory makers, and how the Smart Cover kind of 1-ups them. http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/05/pr_levy_smar... But what stuck out at me the most in this piece was this quote from Steve Jobs: “I think stainless steel looks beautiful when it wears.” What Steve is referring to there is generally known as patina, which, while it...

Best stylus-based notetaking app for the iPad?
I recently purchased a capacitive stylus for my iPad, the Boxwave one and wanted to take full uses of the iPad and start using it to take notes. Does anyone have any recommendations on the what's the best stylus-based notetaking app? I've only tried 2, UPAD (free version) and Noteshelf, but it seems like all the apps are lacking in some key aspect that prevents me to from using it. The problems I had with Noteshelf was the penstrokes weren't smooth and consistent enough and it didn't make me...

What is the best cover for an iPad or iPad 2 for allowing it to stand vertically as well as horizontally?
Smart Covers only allow the iPad to be viewed horizontally. Is there a great cover that anyone knows of that protects the device well (ideally, front and back) which allows it to stand vertically as well as horizontally?

Has anyone found a decent stylus for taking notes with the iPad?
I used the Pogo Sketch to take notes pretty extensively for about eight months during the school year. Albeit, I didn't use it every day and only for certain classes, I can confidently say it wasn't ideal. The good thing is the apps are there-- a number of them are really excellent. It's just that there's no adequate input. Has anyone had the same lackluster experience with pen input on the iPad? On the flip side, has anyone had a better go at it... do you know of a great stylus to try out?

Is there a decent podcast management app for the iPad?
I listen to a lot of podcasts and find myself using Podcaster to manage and download everything I want to listen to -- I just cannot stand using iTunes for this. (I know based on a previous discussion, the primary reason a lot of gdgt users sync their devices to iTunes is because of podcast management.) Are there any decent apps that allow me to do this on the iPad? I know I wouldn't be able to keep things necessarily in sync between both devices, but it'd be nice to have some sort of full...

What is your favorite iPad Case?
I was not impressed by Apple's iPad cover, so I got a Dodo Case ( http://www.dodocase.com/ ) instead for my new iPad 2. I love it and highly recommend it. What about other iPad users out there? What is your favorite way to protect your iOS tablet?

What's the best phone + tablet screen size combination?
3.5" + 7.0"? 3.7" + 10.1"? 4.3" + 10.1"? 4.0" + 8.9"? 4.5" + 8.9"? 3.5" + 9.7"? or whatever?

What do you think about buying iPad (1st gen, pre-owned) now?
I'm torn between getting a pre-owned original iPad (costs $370 here) vs. a new iPad 2 (costs $555 here incl. tax). Both 16gb wifi. The main reason why I want a tablet is to study its UI and the original iPad will serve the purpose. For my personal consumption, the need isn't glaring because I already have an ultraportable Air 11". I'm thinking about budget and the release of the next iPad. The iPad 2 isn't too new anymore so I'm not sure if it's worth paying that much, knowing that the next...

Is Android smartphone + iPad the optimal phone + tablet combination?
This is a followup question to "Android smartphone + iOS tablet or the otherwise?" [1] The consensus there is Android phone + iPad, with the premise of having one device for each platform However, is it the optimal without the given premise? Would you prefer Android or iOS (or whatever) for both phone + tablet over any other roster? [1] http://gdgt.com/question/android-smartphone-ios-ta...

How do I transfer contacts from my iPad to my new MacBook Pro?
I got a new MacBook Pro and I didn't back up the calendar and the address book from the old one, now they are on my iPad but I think if I sync it then it might wipe out the data on the iPad and sync the empty address book on the Mac.

Why don't gestures work in iOS 5 on the iPad Original?
They worked perfectly in 4.3 and I don't see why they were removed. I understand that they only work on the iPad 2. Is this information correct? I want my gestures back :(

Favorite iOS 5 features so far?
Notifications is an obvious and early favorite, but I have to say, I'm personally REALLY digging the lock screen camera shortcut + volume shutter button, and the iPad split screen keyboard and tabbed browsing. Reminders seems conceptually half-baked to me, and doesn't do enough to take the role of a dedicated personal task management system (kind of like how Notes could never replace something like Simplenote for me). Reading List may have potential, but it's like they knocked off the least...
