Apple's keyboard dock for the iPad offers a functional and elegant solution for anyone who finds the touch-screen keyboard too limiting, but it does not transform the iPad into a proper computer.

If you want an iPad, but you're not ready to commit to full-time, on-screen typing, Apple's iPad Keyboard Dock is a solid solution.

Like the iPad it pairs with, the Keyboard Dock is a very polarizing device. You'll either love it and think it's worth every penny, or burn all of your black mock turtlenecks in disgust.

While the iPad Keyboard Dock makes typing on the iPad considerably easier we have to say it's not something we would recommend adding to your shopping list.

We really wanted to like the Apple iPad Keyboard Dock, and it was top of our list of accessories to obtain. It surprised us when it didn't work out.

Though it mightn’t be the most practical or versatile design for traditional desktop use, the iPad Keyboard Dock is every bit as excellent as Apple’s desktop and laptop keyboards for actual typing...it’s a good enough start to merit our general recommendation.
