Well, AT&T's tiered data plan announcement got me off my duff to finally order an iPad last night -- in order to grandfather into the unlimited $29.
99 plan. I don't expect even that to last more than a year, however, when I would bet they will force everyone into the tiered pricing; but it will be fun while it lasts.
With AT&T's new data caps, it got me thinking...
How much data do flash-animated ads consume versus html5+css ads? I know videos would definitely consume a lot, but I'm still curious nonetheless.
I am a pastor and a gadget nerd. I have been thinking about one of Steve Jobs' most recent comments. Mr.
Jobs, the head honcho for Apple, recently made an announcement that he wants the IPad and IPhone to be “porn-free.” Initially, this seems to be a great thing. Furthermore, Mr. Jobs certainly has the right to control his products and determine how they will be built. No one has to buy an Apple product if he does not want to. I personally have never been a fan of the Apple line of products. I did own an IPod classic (which in all fairness I used extensively, and loved), but I turned down an...

Macbook Air vs iPad + Dropbox?
I've got an old Macbook that I'm keen to update with something lighter as I have to carry my computer around almost everyday... I'd been thinking that I'd get myself a Macbook Air as my next computer, but then it occurred to me that maybe an iPad plus Dropbox could be a solution for me? I have an iMac, Macbook and iPhone at home with a Mac Mini at the office. I have quite a lot of word and excel docs that I sync between my iMac & Macbook with Chronosync... but if I put those...

The DoJ are now investigating whether or not Apple is abusing it's position at the top of the digital music ladder, but isn't it the music industry…
that put them there in the first place by anointing the iPod and iTunes are their own personal saviour? Now Steve Jobs appears to be slapping the record labels around with demands for exclusivity on certain tracks, but the labels are still sticking by Apple when there's plenty of other all-you-can-eat music services that will happily license the music and break Apple's monopoly almost overnight. Services like Spotify, Napster, and Zune are already part of the way there, but there are...

I remember reading somewhere online that, in order to understand the power and draw of the iPad, you needed to hold one.
So I went with a friend to our local Apple store and we asked if we could look at an iPad. Now, at this point my friend had already used one and was convinced that I would be AMAZED at the amazing speed and seamless ease of it. So, they brought it to me, I held it, used it for about 15 minutes, all the while my friend was staring to me while I used it constantly repeating Steve Jobs' tag lines to me. At the end the employee came back, looked a me in the eyes and said, "So,...

Had a coworker at work today who just got her iPad 3G. She was clueless about the acceleometer in it. My stereotype on the typical iProduct was reinforced.

Have/Wants
I came to the iPad page to see the want and have numbers. I expected the want to be nearly zero. But only slightly over 1500 people have it, and 9000 people still want it. Must be a lot of people outside the US using this site. Or everyone's poor. So why don't you have your iPad yet? (I don't really want one; I'm waiting for the Android tablets. But I do want to keep up any news about the iPad.)

Have you seen the DODOcase for the iPad?
Just saw this case floating around the internets today. It's a case that makes your iPad look like a moleskin notebook. It seems to have the same functionality as the Apple branded iPad case (an articulated back that can bend to form a laptop stand), but looks quite a bit cooler. It looks like the sides are made of wood though, so I'm afraid this thing would get destroyed in my messenger bag. Linkage: http://www.dodocase.com/

The greatest gadget upset for me lately has been the death of the Microsoft Courier.
There have been so many products released lately that have piqued my interest, from the iPad to the EVO... but the iPad is just a biggie sized iTouch, and the EVO well when it comes down to it, it’s just another phone. The Courier WAS something new, it was something exciting. Through the rumor mill and the rampant speculation that is the Internet my interest and inherent excitement for the device skyrocketed. I have an iPhone, I love it, but the iPad just was not what I really wanted in a...

Could this be the key to iPad printing. Maybe they could make the next version hold a couple of print drivers with on board memory.

I've really thought about the iPad and the interface. I think this could be the future of computing for most people.
But on the other hand do you think Chrome OS will be the future for normal people or just geeks. Where do you see desktop OSes in 10 years? Or do you think tablets are the future, at least more most folks.

Because I would only be gone for about 30 hours I decided not to bring a laptop with me to Chicago this week, just my iPad, Nexus One, and BlackBerry 9700.
Funny thing is that apart from doing a little reading on the plane I didn't end up using my iPad at all -- it was way more convenient for me to do email, check Google Reader, and stay on top of Twitter from my phones. Not saying that I don't enjoy using my iPad or anything, just thought it was interesting that I could have lightened my load even further if I had wanted to and been fine. Obviously this only worked because I wasn't expecting to get any serious work done in Chicago,...

My choice of apps:
NYT editor's pick: This is a glimpse on what digital media should be. Excellent presentation. Goodreader: PDF and other documents, blazing fast ComicZeal: Have CBRs? Get this (or cloudreader, I think comiczeal is more polished but you can't beat cloudreader's price) StarWalk if you're into stars or like the eye candy gmail is better on the browser than in the mail app evernote for ipad I have a few more, but IMHO these are all well worth the time of a fellow gdgt NB:...

How to jailbreak iPad with Spirit on Mac
iPad "jailbreaking" has been a hot topic since Apple released its tablet this 2010. While the amazing device does indeed have applications for "just about everything," Apple's sometimes arbitrary or self-serving rejections of apps such as Google Voice has turned more people on to the idea of freeing themselves from dependence on Apple for these resources. Now DevTeam have again lived up to their reputation with the release of Spirit jailbreak for iPad. Here is a step by...
