The best aspect of the 4.2 update: much better memory management! Now you can browse with safari and not have tabbed pages refresh all the time.
I have been using it for about an hour and I have yet to have a single refresh :)

iOS 4.2 is out: Apple includes "Find my Phone" feature for free.
Probably the biggest surprise related to the release of iOS 4.2 is the ability for users of the latest generation of iOS devices to freely use Apple's Find My Phone feature, which was previous only available to Mobile Me subscribers (at $99 / year). It's kind of a cool perk, and judging by some of the success stories people have had with it, it can turn out to be quite useful. I'll be honest, this was the only reason I was actually considering getting a Mobile Me subscription. Via...

jailbroke, One of the most used gadgets I use, especially when I'm on a business trip.
(64Gb 3g) I get almost 10hrs of battery life. One thing I regret is letting the original data plan lapse and now not being able to have unlimited data. When it was unlimited, it was the best 3g router for my laptop. At least I still have unlimited on my iphone and can use MyWi to share wi-fi to the ipad.

I'm finding my wife uses this more than I do...as a cookbook.

Why the hell is "my gadget stream" loaded down with Apple crap?
I have one Apple device on my list, a five year old iPod that I haven't gotten around to tearing down for the mini-drive (whatever they call it). And yet, the Galaxy Tab, two days from launch, is nowhere to be seen. I'm sorry if this comes off as trolling, but I'm hoping a staffer sees this and takes my complaints under consideration.

So, my Kindle 1 recently died. I was thinking of picking up an IPad, but am curious if it is good enough for use with the Kindle app.
I realize it does MORE than the Kindle does, which is great. but I really liked my Kindle, and think I would use the Kindle app quite a bit on the IPad if it was good enough for reading for long periods of time?

When I first got my iPad, I questioned the lack of a mute switch, but the need for the orientation lock switch seemed obvious.
Then I installed the beta of ios 4,2 a few weeks ago which changes the function of the switch to a mute switch - there is no longer any orientation lock. This apparently is a going to stay this way in the final 4.2 release. The result, using the iPad in anything other than a seating position is next to impossible. Try reading it lying on you side or whilst on you back in bed and the orientation will flick between landscape and portrait, end up in the wrong orientation. I don't know what...

Apple quarterly results -- sells 14.1 millions phones and 4 million iPads in 3 months.
Holy crap! Those are some impressive numbers, especially for a company dealing with the brief effects of "Antenna-gate" and Consumer Reports not recommending their device. The mindshare this company continues to maintain with the general public is pretty astounding. One other statistic that keeps getting thrown around is how many iPads they've sold, and if "one were to count them as PC's, Apple would be the #1 PC maker." I love my iPad, but this seems like a pretty...

Apple selling the iPad through Verizon (bundled with a MiFi 2200) marks the first time Apple has partnered with a US carrier other than AT&T on a product…
launch, which is pretty awesome. But I'm puzzled why Apple didn't make a proper EV-DO version of the iPad (instead of bundling it with a mobile hotspot device). This seems very un-Apple. But I'm guessing it's got more to do with the business arrangements in place. So far I haven't seen anyone take notice to the fact that the iPad's Verizon launch is almost exactly six months to the day from its initial 3G launch on AT&T (April 30 - October 28th), meaning early on...

I just bought an iPad 3G 64gb and it looks like an app reader to me!
I thought it would be more than That. The thing i Miss most on this is the to streaming iTunes to my airport. The iPad does'nt have iTunes it is an Large iPod. So i still need to have my notebook or iMac set to iTunes if i want to Play music
Errn:
Seems as if you got a better deal than me in the cost of your iPad and you may have a better deal on your monthly rate, too. Obviously older than you, I was forced, due to AT&T's unchallengeable billing practices, to pay their atrociously inflated monthly telephone rates, for well-over 40 years. I'll be damned, now that the digital age has given me the option, of ever, ever, ever giving AT&T another penny! The reason I held off purchasing an iPhone was, until either Apple...

I acquired the first release of the iPad on the date of release, 04/03/2010, having waited patiently in line for 2 hours.
Of course, it is Wi-Fi, sans 3G, but that turned out to be good. Within a few short weeks, I got the Verizon Motorola Droid X and subscribed to the Wi-Fi Driver service which supports five devices, including said iPad. So as it turned out, I'm able to access the net anytime and anywhere without having to contend with AT&T's notoriously poor service.

How often do you use your iPad in bed?
According to a survey by NPD, iPad users spend around 18 hours per week on their iPads on average, with 20% of that time being used in bed. 3.6 hours! How often do you think you use your iPad in bed? Linkage: http://www.npdgroupblog.com/2010/09/i-own-an-ipad-...

Thoughts on typing long form content with the iPad after 6 months of use.
After purchasing the iPad nearly 6 months ago, I still find myself using it as much as I ever have. One thing that I started thinking about recently was my experience using the iPad to produce long form written content -- ranging from email, to blog posts, gdgt posts, or anything similar. I find that I can actually type relatively fast on the iPad, using only the touch screen and not looking at where I'm typing. However, there seems to be a very tiny bit of lag that often pops up while...

Sonos for iPad is out! I've been beta testing this for the last couple of months, and I have to say these guys have done a great job with their iPad app.
They've taken everything great about the CR200 and iPhone experiences and made it even better with the iPad's screen real estate. Download it here: http://itunes.apple.com/app/sonos-controller-for-i... What do you think of it?

Gartenberg hypothesizes that using AirPlay to play games on Apple TV should theoretically be possible.
This is an interesting consideration. I'm not entirely sure how practical this would be (as far as I know, AirPlay seems to just mirror the media play back and display of an iPad / iPhone / iPod touch to an Apple TV). Are there any developers playing with the 4.2 SDK who would be willing to comment on the feasibility of this? Via Twitter: http://twitter.com/Gartenberg/statuses/25816816503
