Engineers use iPad powered AR.Drone Parrot to examine earthquake damaged Christchurch cathedral.
details
An earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand earlier this week damaged a hundred and six year old cathedral. Worried that the building was too unstable for humans to venture into, engineers bought a Parrot drone to fly into the building. Check out the video -- it's pretty neat! ( http://www.3news.co.nz/VIDEO-Inside-Christchurchs-... ) Via the article: " “Even if we lost it in the building ‘cause we're never quite sure with the... Read more →

Apple restricting giveaways of their products
details
CNN is reporting that Apple is starting to enforce its "Guidelines for Third Party Promotions," which state how companies are allowed to conduct promotions such as free giveaways. Some of these "guidelines" include: * iPad, iPhone and the iPhone Gift Card may not be used in third-party promotions. * The use of "free" as a modifier in any Apple product reference in a prominent manner (headlines, callouts, etc.) is prohibited. * You must submit all marketing materials related to the promotion of... Has anyone had an issue where the iPad is connected to wifi, but apps that use network connectivity don't work?
details
There are random occurrences with my iPad where I try to user Twitter, go on a website, etc...but content doesn't load. I'll try to go to Google.com, but the progress bar will get stuck or I'll try to refresh my Twitter timeline and it never shows me anything new. I see in the upper left corner that I'm connected to wifi (even in the settings menu) and the little pinwheel that pops up when you're trying to load content (like refreshing the Twitter timeline). The only way...

Has AT&T caught your unauthorized tether?
details
So Engadget's reported that AT&T is now cracking down on illegal tetherers using MyWi or other jailbreak tools. Have you gotten a text message yet saying that they've found you out? If you have what devices do you use with you AT&T connection? I only tether with my iPad and have yet to get a txt from AT&T saying they've found me out yet. I wonder if AT&T can tell the difference between iPad and iPhone traffic or if there's an extra IP assignment they are...

Xoom vs iPad for SMB
details
Let me start off by saying that I am evaluating tablets that will be distributed amongst my organisations executives. The two contenders are the Xoom (which I keep referring to as Zune!) and the iPad. Been using the Xoom for a bit now and here the Xoom's pluses and minuses: +Honeycomb widgets are awesome. Now I can just glance at the home screen when and email comes in without having to dig into the mail app thats a big plus. Side note, the gmail widget works really well, but I've run... Read more →

Any iPad 1 owners care to comment on whether 16 GB is "enough" for someone that doesn't really plan on taking this out of the house very often?
details
I have a 32 GB iPhone for music, and iOS 4.3 uses homeshare over WiFi. So really (unless I'm missing some use cases) my question is how much space do apps take up on the iPad compared to iPhone? Right now I'm using 4-5 GB for apps on my phone...

hmmmm....7.5/10.
details
It is not that i don't like it (I do) it's just that I've been getting used to Android because of my phone and at some points i seem to miss some of Android's stuff like widgets, or a real notification bar. Also and this seems to be an issue with Google not Apple i cant sync all my Google calendars to it so i end up looking at my phone more and more, another disadvantage --also because of $GOOG-- is that there is no Chrome available for it, no SD card slot, and finally on the... How the heck did Apple become the low price tablet company among the major manufacturers?
details
Everyone else is hitting higher price points, which is the opposite of how things usually go with Apple. Why is this suddenly the opposite of how things have gone with Apple's computers and PMPs? The Archos tablets are looking like busts for now. The best budget alternative to the iPad right to root a loss leader color e-book reader that may never have certain features like cameras and whatnot. If nobody equals or undercuts the iPad's $500 entry price, then Apple will obliterate the...
