The lists are also a great way for us to track which new products are most popular with our members, and the tables below show some interesting patterns. As expected, there are a lot of...

http://media.gdgt.com/img/product/14/b75/eee-pc-701sdx-n7w-460.jpg According to a report from the Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/dec/31/... as of January 1, 2013 both Asus and Acer will not make anymore netbooks. If you recall the term netbook first showed up around 2007 when Asus introduced the Eee PC, more specifically the Eee PC 701 (http://gdgt.com/asus/eee/pc/701/). A lot of people felt the netbook market would take off and usher in a new form of mobile...

I am using this code, can anyone help me or solve my issue..
I'm not sure I want to get into the habit of always writing about why I'm not buying something, but since a few people have asked -- and since I wrote something similar about the Nexus 7 (http://gdgt.com/discuss/why-i-m-probably-not-buyi... -- I thought I'd share why I'm not buying an iPad mini. It boils down to one reason: the screen. At 163 PPI, it's just not good enough. Now, I may have felt differently if I didn't already own a Retina iPad (PPI = 264), but the screen on the...

Rather than just complain about the numbers I decided to actually read the first 5 reviews of the Apple iPad Gen 4, Gen 3, iPad Mini, Samsung Nexus 10, Asus Nexus 7, and Kindle Paperwhite. Then I looked at the Reviews FAQ that Ryan Block posted to determine how gdgt assessed the gdgt score. I see that the Critic reviews do not tie into the gdgt scoring system (or if they do, I cannot look at the score, but rather am directed to the site of the Critic). I also see that the score is not based on a...

Other than a profound need to have all new lightning connectors/cables, any real reason to upgrade to a 4th gen iPad from a gen 3? Will the A6X do anything other than prevent us from jailbreaking for a while?
It's well-established by now that Amazon doesn't make any money from selling tablets. Instead their model is to break-even on the hardware and make money by selling access to content and services (which is partly why we described the Kindle Fire HD as being more of a "content appliance" than a proper tablet). While it's a different approach than that of pretty much every other hardware maker, it is a relatively straightforward strategy. However I think there's an even more subtle aspect to it...

The iPad mini rumors have been swirling for a while and as more pictures of parts continue to leak (http://9to5mac.com/2012/10/02/purported-ipad-mini... they seem to be more and more credible. Well, this morning The Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443... sorry, subscription required) has stated their sources have informed them that production has in fact...

Since the section Usage has been added in Settings > General I'm keeping an eye out on the battery usage time on my iPad. I've always felt it had really awesome battery life but now I can see the real numbers. Mine now shows (since last full charge, and 9% left): 16 hours 34 minutes of usage time 4 days 5 hours of standby time It's running iOS 6. Is this correct or are these times off? What are your times?
With the release of Windows 8 and its ecosystem of hardware near at hand, I have been thinking about the ancient (in technology years) myth of the all-purpose device. This myth is one every geek knows and dreams of. The idea of having a single device that you carry around that can meet all of the technology needs you have is one that has captured the imagination since the days of the first "portable" computers. For geeks everywhere, though, it is ultimately a dream that leaves us depressed and...

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/iphone-5-event.jpg Apple has officially announced a press event for September 12th. There have been a lot of rumors swirling over the last month about new connectors, designs and parts for upcoming Apple devices. It looks like we'll get some answers next week! Here is a list of some of the rumors that could be resolved:
http://media.gdgt.com/img/products/469/a2bx/a2bx-640.jpg As we've just seen from IFA 2012, a lot of manufacturers will be rolling out touchscreen laptops (and a few desktops) in the coming months, including Dell, Sony, Samsung, HP, Lenovo and Acer. These new models will, of course, be tied to the launch of the touch-friendly Windows 8 operating system, and will also compete against Microsoft's own Surface tablets. While some of the new models will run the scaled-down Windows RT, and will be more...

Choosing a smartphone/tablet case SUCKS! It is probably the most difficult tech-product to choose. Which is gdgt's goal: helping people choose the gadget or product that is best suited for them. So, I think you should make a "Cases" category, which will be divided into sub-categories, for each device. Of course, only the popular devices, like the iPhone 4/4S, iPad 2/new iPad, Samsung Galaxy S III, another Android device (HTC One X, for example)...
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/08/aereologo.jpg If you haven’t heard of Aereo before it’s probably because they’re a new company focusing on the New York metro area but it’s something you should be paying attention to. Aereo is a company that is taking over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts*** and making them available to you from anywhere via iPad, iPhone, Safari on Mac, AppleTV and Roku (Android, PC and additional device support coming this summer). From the Aereo press...

Samsung was handed a victory this week in its ongoing patent dispute with Apple -- sort of. A UK judge, declaring that Samsung Galaxy Tabs aren't iPad knockoffs, justified his ruling by saying that the Tabs couldn't possibly be confused for iPads, as they just aren't as cool as the Apple product. As reported by Bloomberg: The design for three Galaxy tablets doesn’t infringe Apple’s registered design, Judge Colin Birss said today in London in a court fight between the world’s two biggest...

I recently read a post by Khoi Vinh titled "Built to Not Last" http://www.subtraction.com/2012/06/19/built-to-not... where he discussed the new Apple MacBook Pro and iFixit's complaint that the new MacBook was unfix-able in the broader context of the trend of companies such as Apple and now Microsoft building devices that are not user up-gradable or repairable, even down to battery replacement, much less memory or video upgrades. Is design trumping practicality? Andy Ihnatko may have said it...

A couple months ago I posted a question asking for suggestions on the best capacitive pen / stylus for iPad. The consensus seemed to be that Adonit's Jot products were worth checking out: http://gdgt.com/question/what-s-the-best-capacitive-pen-stylus-for-ipad-17rn/ I've been playing around with them and I can definitely tell you they pretty much nail exactly what I was looking for: light, easy to hold and grip, excellent for everything from basic use to fine detail work, and (thanks to the clear...

Word is that Microsoft is planning to announce its own tablet at an event planned for next Monday. While plenty of companies recently announced Windows 8 tablets at Computex, Microsoft apparently feels it needs its own tablet to compete effectively against Apple. As All Things D puts it: Sources say that Microsoft concluded that it needs its own tablet, with the company designing both the hardware and software in an effort to better compete against Apple’s strengths. Microsoft’s tablets may...
