Android "Refresh Interval" parallel to iPhone push notifications?
details
Upon downloading a couple of social networking apps on my Android phone, I was a little confused by the "Refresh Interval" settings in each app. On the iPhone, there was only "notifications: on" and "notifications: off" yet here, they're asking me whether I want to set it to "30 minutes, 1 hour, etc..." The more frequent intervals warn me that they'll impact the battery life but I don't want Facebook to notify me only every 4 hours either?
So here's my question - what is the parallel to these... Read more →

How to use keyboard shortcuts
details
I have created several shortcuts in the General > Keyboard settings menu. Once I type them into a text editor, the autocomplete / recommendation widget correctly pops up, but it doesn't appear you can hit enter to choose the text... though hitting the space bar will. If I hit the space bar, I then have to delete the extraneous space. Does anyone know of an easier way to select the recommended text?

Does anyone know of a backlit Bluetooth keyboard specifically designed for use with Windows machines?
details
I've been looking for one for a while now and haven't been able to find any that are designed for use with Windows. I've come across various options designed for the iPad, Android tablets and game consoles, some of which work with a PC, but require the user to implement some sort of a workaround for basic Windows keys like, well, the Windows key. I've also explored the option of other wireless technologies (especially Logitech's unifying receiver), but finally settled on Bluetooth because of its... Read more →

Will Apple increase the size of the iPhone screen this year by making a larger device or by changing the aspect ratio ?
details
I love the iPhone but feel the screen size is too small. I have read that the retina display would be effected by simply increasing the size of the device and wonder whether making the screen taller (think another row of icons) would be something that Apple would consider doing. I feel the extra real estate would be useful, but would this be possible or likely and would it have a significant impact for iOS developers ?

Edited pictures do not sync to photostream
details
I just took some pictures and edited them (cropping) using the built-in Photos app. When I look at photostream, the original unedited pictures remain.

Is there a way to force the edits to upload? The only workaround I can think of is to use a third-party photo editing app to save to camera roll and then go and delete the original pictures. Adds many steps and makes the built-in features of the Photos app rather useless.

Best iOS music apps to use in a car?
details
I like to mount my iPhone on my dashboard when I drive. Between my iTunes library and Spotify it's an infinitely better experience than what's offered on the radio. Problem is the UI for these apps is small and not well-suited to using while driving. I'd love to find an app that has nice big chunky buttons that are as intuitive as those on your car's stereo. Anyone have any recommendations?

Hacks / workarounds for Sparrow on iPhone's lack of push email support?
details
For the last fifteen years I've been something of an email client aficionado, and in the last few months I've become a huge fan of Sparrow. I don't change email clients often, and my expectations are really high. I have been eagerly anticipating Sparrow for iOS for months. It launched tonight, and it was well worth the wait -- except for one kind of major, potentially deal-breaking thing.
As you may have heard, and as I suspected might be the case, push support wasn't included. It's a sucky... Read more →

Am I the only one that finds iOS … dated? TL;DR:
details
I fully understand I will receive innumerable fan-[gender] of [iOS|Android] hate responses but I'm actually being serious. Money out of the picture, I've used iPhones on and off since they came out, but mainly Android (Nexus devices - N1, etc.) for the last few years and now I'm stuck between OSs and a hard place. I picked up a Nokia N9 running MeeGo (from Maemo, and now on to ... Tizen??) and …
With:
1) all the carriers locking down tethering on *unlocked* devices
2) my recent walking away from... Read more →

Deletion from photostream is a bit odd
details
First, let me say I love the ability to delete from photostream. However one thing is a bit odd. When I delete from the iPad, it only deletes from the photostream on the iPad. I also have to delete the photos from the photostream on the iPhone. Anyone else notice this? I expected it to delete from the photostream on all devices. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

iOS 5 changed my messaging to email only!
details
So I upgraded my iPhone 4 to the new iOS5, thus upgrading my texting to the iMessaging features. For whatever reason, in the upgrade, the iMessaging didn't update my phone number, so whenever I text people, it ONLY shows my email address, not my phone number. I tried to add my number, but there's no option in "SETTINGS" to do so. How can I add my number so people actually know whos texting them?

Closed platform? Open platform?
details
I'm interested to see what the overall feeling is in 2012 in regards to this. I have been a simultaneous Android and Blackberry/WP7 user over the years and I always prided myself in my Android loyalty and scoffed at those who claimed the open-ness of Google's OS hampered the overall user experience. Last month I received my first iPhone and I think I'm starting to pull a 180. I believe at this point, especially after experiencing iOS firsthand, Google should really consider pulling in the reigns... Read more →

Will iPhone users be able to NATURALLY send me an sms if I don't have an iOS device, but have Messages on OSX Mountain Lion?
details
I will first run this disclaimer: I do not have any iOS5 device and have not used iMessage. However I am somewhat excited about Messages for Mountain Lion.
The way I understand iMessage is this, if Joe sends me a message... it defaults to send an iMessage if available, and then send an SMS if not available. There is a way to manually send an SMS by tapping on the blue bubble twice (this is from a third party source telling me) -- if my understanding is wrong please do correct me.
Assume I am in... Read more →
