just an FYI, amazon (and crucial) have great deals on mac ram right now. i bought an 8gb kit for $50. kingston brand. installed it friday & it's like a brand new mac. so much faster. ever since upgrading to lion my mac had been very slow to wake up, respond to simple things. this simple & cheap upgrade seems to have resolved it. if you've been looking for ram, go there now!

preparing for lion update...
since lion's a few days/weeks away from being properly released, i'm starting to think about how should i update my imac. do i just update over snow leopard (that's how i updated to snow leopard) or do i do a completely new install? if i do a new install, what's the best way of backing up restoring my data (itunes, photos, docs, etc)? i'm currently using time machine but i also have an extra 1tb drive i can copy all my data to. suggestions?

Rumors of iMac / MacBook updates, worth waiting?
There are rumors of new Macs coming soon http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2009/09/1... and referenced by others http://www.macrumors.com/2009/09/15/analyst-imac-a... http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/09/16/appl... So, should I wait? I was all set to buy the 24" iMac (my first mac) when I heard the rumor. Are these kind of rumors pretty commonly incorrect? Do they...

New rev of iMac any time soon?
I'm thinking of getting either a 20" or 24" iMac in the near future - probably between August ~ September 2009. Does anyone out there think they'll be rev'ing this any time soon with a new model and that I should therefore wait a bit? I haven't heard any rumors on this but just curious what others feelings are. Thanks!

30 inch display
Anyone with a 30 inch display hooked up to their imac? I was thinking about the dell 3008WFP, but was curious if the the iMac can fully populate all those pixels in full color.

iMac and laptop parts
Hello all... I really like OSX but I am stopping myself from buying a Mac. As a bit of an enthusiast I love messing around with hardware. The problem is that the iMac uses laptop parts. The proc and the graphics card are the mobile versions. I am not too happy with the fact that I would end up with separate screens, one for the Windows box and the iMac Do that laptop parts bother you? Does it matter? What do you do about the screen situation?

Recent Convert
Don't have the 2nd Gen but have the 2008 version. I originally simply purchased the iMac basically to learn OSX and learn more linux/UNIX, but found that the more Apple products I use the happier and more impressed I am with them. I have been a Windows based IT guy for since the late 80's and have professionally worked in IT on Windows Servers and Workstations/PC's since 92. I originally shunned all Mac's due to their prohibitively expensive costs as opposed to rolling my own...

Lack of sound options
I recently purchased the iMac 24". Great computer. Extremely easy to setup and fast. However I am finding the internal speakers to be not enough. I want full surround sound but have found that I cannot add 5.1 PC speakers from other manufactures. iMac has a digital port to go to an amplifier but I cannot seem to find a compact amp that accepts digital input. How do other iMac users do external audio?

Video editing?
At this point, how much of a difference would a discrete graphics card made when it comes to video editing? How would the low end 24" iMac handle this?

i heart iMac
Currently on my 4th iMac, and more than ever the iMac is the ultimate balance of power, design, and value. I just upgraded the hard drive in this one ( see http://www.amfiteatar.org/content/view/155/57/lang... if interested ) and the machine is fresh and spunky for a nearly 2 year old desktop. I hate to say it but I think Apple's going to have to offer a 30" display option to get me to upgrade again. What do you love about your iMac?
