Detailed review
We actually bought the Apple TV for testing new AirPlay software we were developing. We wanted to be able to send audio from a Mac (Spotify, Pandora, ect) to our stereo. It turned out it actually worked very well: Porthole.com (that is the name of the application) now sends the audio of our Macs in our office to the Apple TV. Works like charm.
Decable your house and enjoy wireless music.
Now the verdict. If you want to use the device to get rid of cables and listen to players such as Spotify, Last. FM or Pandora, the Apple TV 3 is a good choice + there is the 'extra' of video as well. However it only has a digital audio output, so if you have an 'older' receiver or stereo the AirPort Express probably is the better choice for you since it has 3,5 mm jack output and its a bit cheaper as well.
