Apple TV (2nd gen) doesn't mark viewed podcasts as watched.
details
I've been using my ATV2 to watch my video podcasts streamed from iTunes on my Mac. I've noticed that even though I finish watching the video on the ATV2, the video is only marked in iTunes as partially watched. I've had this issue when watching TWiT and Tekzilla. However, I had a TV show that I downloaded on my Mac through iTunes, watched that through the ATV2 and it was successfully marked as watched. Has anybody else noticed this problem?

This cute little device is really changing my living room entertainment experience. I'm actually going to cancel cable and tivo now, finally.
details
Here's my flow: I use Netflix DVDs (and RipIt), Bit Torrent, and Podcasts to get new content on my Mac. Then when I use Apple TV I just go straight to "Computer" and browse my library there. Of course, I also do a lot of NetFlix streaming. It couldn't be easier (well, minus getting the actual content encoded and into iTunes). Just like the majority of iTunes libraries being pirated copies, I think this will be the same for Apple TV as well... at least to start. Eventually I... Read more →

I'm so glad I tracked down mine. Took a few days.

This will sound like fanboyism but the Netflix implementation on the Apple TV 2 is really one of the best. Only thing missing is an icon showing which items are in HD and which are not. But to be honest even standard def material looks outstanding on this thing. I have netflix on my Windows machine, my XBox 360 and my PS3 and by far I have watched more stuff on this because it's way easier to find. The device works perfectly (as long as you update to the 10.1 version of iTunes) and it is... Read more →

Am I the only person that dislikes the omisson of the iTunes library cover art screen saver? I used to love that in my gameroom on the old Apple TV.
details
The music running mindlessly behind a game of pool, cover art flying arond the screen...my guests would ask what it was. I wish this was readded. Sometimes the spark for my next tune choice would be an album cover flying across the screen.

I'm really liking the additional of Netflix - I signed up for Netflix only because it now is on the AppleTV.
details
The interface is much better that anything Netflix offers. Actually, okay with the "rent only" option. Who wants to 'own' a TV show you watch only once? Fo our family, this works great. Better to rent it, in my opinion. My only complaint is that you can only have one "Home Share" account set up on the device (unless I'm missing something) My wife has her own Apple account, and we can't connect (share) her computer to the AppleTV.

I thought I'd let everyone know whose curious: Apple TV will play 1080p files from your computer. I guess the Apple TV is down converting them on the fly??
details
? But it will stream them, from iTunes that is. Obviously, my TV still shows a 720p connection. I had to keep it a bit away from the Wii, or the WiFi signal seemed to degrade. I used the music video for 'The Space in Between' from HTDA. The file is 317MB .mov file, 1920x1080 H.264, with AAC and HD 1-1-1 color profile. I simply put it in the iTunes 'Movies' folder (using iTunes, NOT the finder window) and it shows up in the Apple TV UI under the "Unknown Genre"... Read more →

I'm surprised I haven't read anywhere about the dramatic CUT in the available television on the new Apple TV compared to the old one because of the…

inability to buy programs. If NBC and all these other networks are refusing the rental model, does that mean you can never order current run episodes of 30 Rock or The Office from your TV? Even if you have to buy it and it downloads to your computer it would be better than no options at all. The only reason I'm not totally frustrated is because I guess the workaround will be with Airplay and buying/downloading content on your device and sending it to ATV.... but it's still not nearly... I really like the concept of the new Apple TV. The problem is, I don't get a strong wifi signal at all locations in my home.
details
This results in significant lag when I want to stream something off of one of my home computers, depending on the location of that computer. Is anyone else having this issue? After just one day I am already missing the local storage on my old Apple TV. It was a bit of a pain to keep things synchronized, but most of the time the content I wanted automatically ended up on the Apple TV and I didn't have to worry about wireless network problems.

My new AppleTV device arrived today, as promised.
details
I have been using a first gen AppleTV so I just plugged it in to power, switched the HDMI, Optical audio, and Ethernet cables from my old box, and within seconds I got the menu screen, quite similar to what I have been seeing. I had to go to my computer running iTunes and turn on "Home Sharing" and then all of my music, movies, TV, podcasts, and photos that I view through the AppleTV appeared under the computer section. 130 gigs of music, 100 gig of movies, and 5 gigs of photos were up... With today's news, Roku seems more compelling than new Apple TV.
details
When the new Apple TV was announced earlier this month, I was initially on the fence about it. As more information was released and discussed (e.g., AirPlay functionality plus support with the Apple Remote apps on iOS) I became pretty intrigued, especially for the relatively low entry price of $99. That said, I didn't really enjoy my previous Apple TV (see my original review here: http://gdgt.com/apple/apple-tv/review/3qo/ ). The number of problems (and Apple's lack of support after... Gartenberg hypothesizes that using AirPlay to play games on Apple TV should theoretically be possible.
details
This is an interesting consideration. I'm not entirely sure how practical this would be (as far as I know, AirPlay seems to just mirror the media play back and display of an iPad / iPhone / iPod touch to an Apple TV). Are there any developers playing with the 4.2 SDK who would be willing to comment on the feasibility of this? Via Twitter: http://twitter.com/Gartenberg/statuses/25816816503

It is time for me to say goodbye to all my Apple ecosystem products I own. I have been using it with ATVFlash for awhile with Boxee/XBMC.
details
Unfortunately, it is very underpowered but has hard drive storage and USB unlike the new Apple TV. Honestly, the new black Apple TV sucks it is 720p, streams like Roku, will give you Netflix, but all HD movie rentals and TV episodes are $5 for streaming. Apple sucks and has this new next generation crapware IOS 4.1 and the new iTunes 10 is not an improvement at all. I own an Iphone 4 and Classic Video Ipod and they also suck. Steve Jobs is very arrogant on getting things fixed and lets all start... Read more →
