iPad2 to Apple TV (2nd Gen) to projector in classroom
details
I have an iPad 2 and an Apple TV. I would like to airplay from the iPad to the Apple TV. Then connect the Apple TV via hdmi to VGA connector to the rooms projection system. The rooms podium has a VGA jack that allows teachers with a laptop to connect into the projectors on the ceiling. So I am thinking I could get an hdmi to VGA cable and attache the Apple TV to the projection system and then leave it on the podium. Then I'd be able to walk around the room using my iPad during class. Is this...

What is the best media player on the market right now?
details
I currently have a HTPC running XBMC in my living room and have been wanting similar set up in my bedroom without the need for a full fledged pc. I saw that Plex now works on GoogleTV, as well as Roku, with a true market app but I know the GoogleTV reviews have been less than stellar.
The Boxee Box has always intrigued me but when I used the desktop software I didn't find the interface to be too great plus the apps like Netflix were pretty lackluster. Have they improved since the device &... Read more →

Should I buy an Apple TV, ever?
details
So the other night I walk into MacAuthority, a third party apple retailer and essentially had this kid un-sell me an Apple TV. He litterly talked me out of it. I recently bought an iPad 2 and thought it would be cool to share things on my TV via AirPlay. Long story short, I didn't buy it so I thought i'd ask you guys. What's the word up hardware and software updates as well.

What apps have interesting airplay mirroring functionality?
details
Some apps just output a 1:1 image, while others, such as The Incident fills up the whole screen and let's you use the iPhone as a controller. Air video lets you select aspect ratio and overscan options, but is limited in that the iPad screen must remain on in order for it operate. Does anyone know of other apps that has interesting airplay mirroring functionality to test out this exciting new feature?

Will we see an update to the Apple TV on Oct 4th?
details
Ever since the 2nd gen Apple TV was introduced and people figured out it was running iOS underneath, people have speculated that Apple would eventually do something significant with it. Gaming perhaps using iOS handheld devices as controllers. Or an app store for the Apple TV allowing you to install say Hulu Plus on your Apple TV. Yet usually when Apple holds an event they barely mention the Apple TV, continuing to call it a "hobby". Do you think they're going to do something this time, and if...

Is there any hardware that streams Netflix better than Xbox 360?
details
If I were to want to let my gold account expire, I couldn't stream Netflix on the TV anymore. The Netflix experience is very good on 360. Are there any other hardware devices, such as the Roku HD or similar, that are comparable or better for streaming (and searching Netflix? I guess I could use WMC (Win 7 version) also. I've heard rather bad things about Netflix built in to hardware (blu-ray players mostly), though that maybe wifi issues and not the hardware necessarily.

is your apple tv waking your Mac's display?
details
i have not been home much in the last week or so, so i only have 2 days of dealing with this issue, but whenever i use my apple tv it is waking my Mac Mini's display. I have one of my hot corners is set to sleep my monitor one is set to start the screensaver. I also have my machine set to ask for password upon wake. I am not sure if the Lion or Apple TV2 update is causing this issue, but frankly it's getting annoying and distracting to have my monitor wake and light up when i'm trying to enjoy a... Read more →

Logitech cut the price of the Revue, its Google TV box, to $99. Will you buy one?
details
http://gigaom.com/video/logitech-revue-99-dollars/ They're basically just trying to unload them now and are selling them at a loss. Things were so bad that Logitech admitted that in the last quarter sales of the Revue were actually negative. More Revues were returned than sold. No one wanted 'em at $249, but will they sell at $99? It's definitely more in line with what I think you can charge for a set top box these days (Apple TV and the highest-end Roku retail for $99), but would you actually...

Network storage for local media?
details
Currently, my mother is set up with a 1st gen Apple TV. She uses it almost exclusively as a device for playing back her photos and music. But her Apple TV is starting to flake and freeze up, so I'm looking into getting her a replacement. My problem, however, is in understanding exactly how the second gen Apple TV plays nice with local media. As I understand it, the Apple TV has always been able to stream media from a computer that's running and has iTunes open. My question: is this now the only... Read more →
