Est. April 1st, 1973 as Apple Computer, Inc. by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak; released first computer, Apple I, in July of the same year| Apple ][ released June 1977, followed by the Apple /// in May 1980 and the Apple Lisa in January 1983| Apple's most successful line, the Macintosh, is introduced in January of 1984 accompanied by the famous "1984" Ridley Scott Super Bowl commercial| After the launch of the Mac, a power struggle between founder Steve Jobs and then-CEO John Sculley caused Jobs to leave the company in 1985 to create NEXT, Inc.| The PowerBook and System 7 are introduced in 1991 and they set the standard for Apple's products to come. However, many of Apple's products are discontinued mere months after release due to their failing to sell because of their asking prices.| Apple forms an alliance with IBM and Motorola in 1994, the AIM alliance. The AIM alliance created the PowerPC processing platform, which Apple used in most of its Mac products up to 2006. The Power Macintosh was introduced the same year.| After a disastrous period of massive layoffs and three failed attempts to update the aging Mac OS, Apple buys Steve Jobs' company, NEXT, and decided to base the new version of Mac OS on NEXT's NEXTSTEP platform.| (WORK IN PROGRESS BY trespeak)
