using a scanner from Canon et al with Paperport for example? I almost never use scanners despite owning a number of them since more often than not, they don't always cooperate in either OS X or Windows, scanning software can be bloated and they often don't work for a random work pattern, if that word pairing makes any sense. Pros: Does what it should really easy and fast. The software works with various local apps and cloud services.
I use it to keep my life free of paper documents, but does probably a good job with images too. Cons: Documents with creases are prone to slide, resulting in distorted scans. Maybe it is inherent to the design of this type of compact scanners in general.
