Amazon's second-generation Kindle Fire isn't radically different from the initial model, retaining a body that feels heavy and chunky compared to the Kindle Fire HD and other more recent tablets. While it's somewhat faster, has more memory, and includes some software upgrades, it still lacks hardware volume controls, and its display is inferior to that of the Fire HD. If you're on a tight budget, its $159 price tag will get you full access to the Amazon ecosystem, but if you can afford it, the extra $40 for the $199 Fire HD gets you a much better device -- or you can spend the same $199 on an Asus Nexus 7 if you want a far better tablet with more flexibility.
