Detailed review
Ever since the first kindle came out, I have been extremely interested in the device, because of it's e-paper display, thin profile, and lifetime wireless data connectivity. This technology improves reading in absolutely every single way. You can resize text, have all of your books with you at all times, search text, and add to your library no matter where you are... instantly.

However, the whole point of this device is that it is mobile, and I have found that it is too fragile to be a practical addition to my purse.

I was given this product as a gift three months ago, with a beautiful hard leather case that completely surrounds the device. I used it for a few hours after I received it, but neglected to take it out until I took a vacation from work last week. I charged the device, put it in my hard shell AXIO backpack, and was all excited to read it on the plane. Unfortunately, as soon as I sat down on the plane and pulled out the device, the screen had strange lines all over it.

First time out of the house, double protected in hard shell cases, and the device cannot handle one rather mundane trip to the airport.

I called Amazon customer service, who told me that I had physically abused the device, and they would have to charge me $130 to replace the screen. I offered to send them the device so they could inspect it for any physical damage to the screen or case to find evidence of abuse, and they turned me down.

No thanks guys, I am not going to toss down $130 to replace a screen that might fail just as quickly once again, especially when that device is designed so that I can pay you money.

I love the product itself, when it works. I absolutely adore the functionality. There are however, clear fragility issues with the screen. Sure, mine may have been from a bad batch, but Amazon not standing behind their product has convinced me not to purchase the DX I was lusting after, or replace the screen on my regular Kindle 2.
