- Display / readability One word E-Ink. Looks like printed paper, and only flipping the page gives it away.
- Battery life Lasts for weeks, and thats not an exaggeration
- Store and selection of titles Only complaint is it doesn't have alot of OLD OLD books from when I was growing up. But I can't get them in dead tree form either so it may be just me.
- Ease of use Way easy to use. It's a book. Using it is a no brainer.
- Document support No PDF support on the 1st gen kindle which is pretty much required of any device looking to replace physical volumes, books or documents.
- Storage capacity Wish that it had more options for storage of non Amazon materials. SD Card is in a hard to get to spot and have to take off the back to get to it.
- Durability Never had a problem with the build, right up to the moment I gave it to my sister.
- Design and form factor Sleek design, nice to hold in the hand. Some people don't like the feel of the original but I love it.
- Portability (size / weight) Very thin and light. The perfect device for a single purpose, reading.
Detailed review
I loved my 1st gen Kindle, gave it to my sister after getting my iPad. I like consolidating down to one device and the iPad was the best way to do so. But I frequently think about buying one of the new Kindles. The device was light, easy to use and never failed me any time I went to use it. Sampling new books cost me quite a bit of money when It was as easy as Amazon makes it to buy new books over the 3G connection. Book lovers shouldn't be without one and for those people who complain about preferring physical books over electronic books I have this to say. If you could carry a library around with you, why would you prefer only being able to carry 3 or 4 books instead. Makes no sense.
The Kindle is one of the best things a reader can do for themselves or for someone you love who likes to read.
