Conclusion: We like it

Despite being one of the smallest gaming PCs on the market, the console-sized Alienware X51 packs enough power to handle most games — though not always at the top graphics settings. The PC's interior is also designed for easy (though not unlimited) upgrades, something that may appeal to users who aren't quite ready to build their own gaming rig, but who still want to be able to add a larger hard drive, more powerful graphics card, or make other changes over time.

The X51 is a step in the right direction for Alienware....shoppers who aren't ready to roll up their sleeves and build their own PCs are likely to turn to recognized brands.

The price may be on the dear side, but it's got a sleek, customisable case that matches the mainstream understanding of a gaming device, and is convenient to use at every level. Ultimately, if the goal is to make PC gaming more accessible to more people, we're all for it.

It is difficult to give a blanket endorsement to the Alienware X51 due to the fact that there are four different configurations with notably different components in the high- and low-end versions, but as far as the $999 model is concerned, it gets my full recommendation.
