The K 495 NC may have broader appeal because of its more bass-heavy balance, and my guess is that the average listener will prefer it to the K 490 NC.

AKG's K 495 NCs are stylish, comfortable noise-cancelling headphones that have a few good features most other noise-cancelers lack, including a rechargeable battery that you can charge via USB, and the ability to shut off the noise-reduction functions entirely, so you can use them as regular headphones. They fold flat for travel, deliver very good, deep sound, both with and without noise cancelling engaged, and do a solid job of blocking out airplane noise and other everyday annoyances. While $350 may be a steep price, it's consistent with some other noise-cancelling models, including the Bose QuietComfort 3, which doesn't let you disable noise-cancellation and can't be charged via USB.

These aren't the only great-sounding, noise-canceling headphones out there, but none are better built for your backpack or suitcase.
