[W]ith the exception of ... impressive battery life, the AS5830 is a forgettable machine, with both its performance and design skewing middle-of-the-road. To give just one example, for just a hundred bucks more you could get the HP Envy 14, one of the most stunning notebooks we've seen, with the same processor and 6GB of RAM, along with switchable graphics and a full gigabyte of video memory. ... Put differently, you can't go wrong with it; we just suspect you can do better. quote

Still, with the exception of that impressive battery life, the AS5830 is a forgettable machine, with both its performance and design skewing middle-of-the-road...Put differently, you can't go wrong with it; we just suspect you can do better.

The TimelineX AS5830TG-640 may not be the fastest desktop replacement around, but as a combination of usable size – both of the decent display and well-proportioned keyboard – and portability it’s keenly priced.

The latest model of Acer's small business laptop is a good looking machine, with much of the power you need - and at a very reasonable price for its specification. We liked its looks, and were surprised to find just how light it was.

While the Aspire 5830T offers nothing remarkable compared to other mid-price professional laptops, it also has very few flaws to speak of. If you need a machine to keep you productive and entertained on the go, there are much worse options.

The first thing I noticed about the Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830 was it's striking looks. Slim, sleek and a fantastic squarish design to it. It doesn't try to be a Macbook clone in keyboard layout design, and further sets itself apart with a blueish paint job. I would have preferred a black one but...

The hard drive crashed within a year and the entire laptop seems to be poorly built. The plastic covers and the aluminum front cover don't mesh well.
