We think what Acer has done is create the computer equivalent of a '70's muscle car shoving a premium powerplant in a subpar chassis: it's great at the (gaming) drag strip, but its shortcomings could make it a tough sell as a daily driver.

With its 15-inch display, 4.4-pound weight, and built-in optical drive, you'd be hard-pressed to call the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 an ultrabook. What you can call it, though, is a high-performance laptop targeted at mobile gamers. However, while it performs well enough to run most modern games, its display is relatively low resolution, and has limited viewing angles. Ultimately, that makes the M3 a frustrating compromise; it's a laptop you want to like, but there's no getting around that display, especially since you'll spend every moment you're using the M3 staring at it.
